WHY? Still driving a DeSoto??? Photos is iPhoto in another wrapper. Aperture has much to offer, not so with Photos.

Agreed. Photos is iPhoto but possibly worse. At least you could export to other applications from iPhoto but it looks nigh impossible with Photos. I won't be letting Photos touch anything. What I'm seeing about it on forums from folks trying to tame it is dreadful. I bet Apple will eventually come up with something better though. I am glad I moved to LR some time ago. Though I'm not a big fan of Adobe, I'll hang with them for now.

True, but Aperture won't be around forever. Instead of basing my opinion and my decision on what other people say, I will base it on my own experiences.
And, as far as I know Adobe is not going to prohibit people who use photos from moving to it's products. So if, at some future date, I decide to move to an Adobe product, it will be because I decided that for myself and not because I let some other person decide for me.

I agree, but so far I'm not real pleased. I viewed Gary overview at MacMost it helped.

If you want a better editing experience, consider Lightroom - which is a bit of an upgrade from Aperture. You will be disappointed with Photos.

"moving from Aperture 3 to Photos for Mac"

Should have, would have been the preferred topic heading. Too bad UHH Admin does not monitor this stuff and make posters stick to the guidelines for headings.

I'm taking yet another deep breath of annoyance at the practice.

With the new heading, I would never have opened it, as I have no interest in your topic.

Then why did I? To track nonsense and complain and waste your time for wasting mine.

In my house Aperture is already gone. I upgraded to the latest version of OS this week as I wanted the latest version of iMovie for a class I am taking. Little did I know that the latest OS Yosemite puts a circle with a line through it over the Aperture icon. If you click on it it says you must upgrade Aperture to work with the new OS. If you go to the App store to get an update, it says Aperture is no longer available. Photos is now the Apple photography icon on my desktop.

I had thought that the old version of Aperture would stay around and I could use it for books etc. Guess not, but glad I mostly us LR5 now anyway.

Hey there guys! I've been on here for a while, but I think this might be the first post, since this hits home for me. I moved my collection to LR5 from Aperture a while back. There are up sides and downsides to this decision. I've also been using Photos, but in a limited fashion.
I've been an avid Mac user for the last 5-6 years, first with iPhotos, then graduating to Aperture, then to Photos. I chose LR5 because the processing seems better than Aperture. My post processing results (at least to my eye) are better than Aperture, but I bet that has to do with my knowledge improving since my move, ha! I did like the organization in Aperture much better than I do in LR5, but since Aperture is no more what are you going to do?
Now to Photos... This is a completely dumbed down version of iPhoto and in all reality I am disappointed with Apple. Why lose this niche program and alienate some of the loyal users? I am also a recording engineer and use Apple's Logic Pro X. I'm glad they continued that program.... Back to Photos...
I decided that I would use Photos for my iPhone pics since it is EXACTLY THE SAME APP(as far as I can tell) as on the iPhone. To me, that is a step backwards for the professional, or even the amateur photographer.
Just my two cents!
By the way, I really enjoy reading all of the posts from the members. Everyone's insight is really helpful!
