I have been wanting another lens besides the two kit lens that came with my Nikon D-5000. A 55-200 and an 18-55. And my wife thinks the pics I take are just fine. But I'm wanting another lens.
What is the difference between a Nikon 50mm f1.2 AF Nikkor lens and a Nikon 50mm f1.2 AF-S Nikkor lens. I saw some stunning photos by a Timothy Bayaka using the fixed lens. Is this considered a wide angle? And is it good for landscape photos. I've already heard some of you say refurbished is a good deal. My DW won't let me spend too much until she sees a stunning difference.

I had the two lenses you just mentioned on my D3100. I just bought the 35mm f/1.8 dx lens, (200$) and have not looked back. I haven't put my 18-55 back on since getting the new one, and I may even sell it.
I promise you will not be disappointed. I can e-mail you a few examples of what I took if you'd like..

Also - I don't think 50mm (Esp on a dx) is wide angle. 35mm is the way you want to go.
AF will not autofocus on DX models, AF-S will.
Nikkor (Nikon) does not sell a 50mm f/1.2 AF lens.
I have their 50mm f/1.2 lens, and it is great, but not AF. If you get that lens, I would recommend that you get an etched focusing screen (KatzEye) as well.
There is a learning curve with that lens, particularly wide open, but the results are worth it.
Thank you! My email is ken.mchenry@gmail.com I would love a few examples to show my sweetie.

NOT true!!
False info here helps no one.
AF-S lenses are only required on D40, D60, D3000, D3100, D5000 and D5100 models. AF as well as AF-S lenses will autofocus on ALL other Nikon DX sensor models from the original D1 all the way through the latest D7000.
MT is correct !! On the camera bodies D40 thru 5100 you need a lens with the motor built in. On the other bodies there is a motor in the camera.

Except the D50, it also has the internal AF motor.
Except the D70, it also has the internal AF motor.

I took your advice after reading lots of reviews on both lenses. I got the 35mm f1.8 DX. B & H had it for about $197 with free shipping and no tax. Thanks. I know I will love it.
