I like the Sigma, the color of the rust on the canister is a richer sort of color, as well as the rendition of soft colors, make the sigma, my pick, but in fairness, they both are very close....

I had a customer asking about the image quality between the Tamron 150-600mm and the newly released Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary model. Since the Sigma is only available in the Canon mount right now, I decided to mount the two competitors up and take a shot with each for a quick comparison. Subject matter is lacking in the city so I shot a transformer on a power pole a half a block away.
Images can be downloaded for direct comparison on your own. I find the sharpness quite similar. The differences to me are in the Bokeh and color rendition. The Sigma's Bokeh is softer, yet its colors are richer. At least to my eye. Feel free to leave your own impressions here. (And yes, the pole is THAT crooked!)

Sorry, I am going to differ.
I want to say the Sigma is sharper, but its not.
I think the Tamron image is sharper in the grain in the pole and the bolt ends on the transformer bulb thingys.
At less than 100% the Sigma looks to have better bokeh in the twigs, at 100% I'm not sure i can tell.
I didn't check the focal point to see if that caused the differences.
And yes, the Tamron has zoomed a fraction closer. (looking at the width, not the wire in the corner)
EDIT:
OK - changed my mind.
I think I may have gotten mixed up with which image was which when flicking back and forth through them before.

Why would you "want to say the Sigma is sharper"? Your credibility just went flying out the window.

On my suckey monitor, these images are virtually identical.

On further examination, except for slight differences in color and contrast, these images are virtually identical.

I am thinking the Sigma is looking better. What is the difference in the lens you used and the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM ( S ) Lens for Canon EF Cameras? I have a Canon T-5i and will add another camera body in the future so do not have any crop camera lens. I enjoy landscape photography with that said I want to take pics of animals, mountains, and other that are at distance. Any advice is welcome.

Mt, I enlarged both photos with download and the magnifier. I cropped both photos and It looks to me that the tamron is slightly sharper. "My opinion"

Why did my credibility just go out the window??
Because I had a preference, but totally ignored it and went with the data instead?
Tell me, how does that jeopardise my credibility?

I agree I think the Tamron is sharper, the white tank is brighter, cleaner and the branches look sharper

Because you have an obvious bias. I would have thought that too would have been obvious.

Oh, I agree.
And as Jim Bob said about his "sucky monitor" each of us in cyber land is getting a slightly, to vastly, different view.
So opinions would vary.

Printed, displayed on a wall, everybody viewing would see the same display.

I looked at the EXIF data for differences and only saw a very slight exposure time variance.
And I agree with Carter that the light transmission difference of the two lenses could easily have made that.

So, from my perch, on my display, my preference and opinion stands with the Sigma in this comparison.
Even though I own and use a Tamron.

Thank you for the comparison Carter. :-D I appreciate it.

Good news! A less than perfect monitor can save you a fortune in equipment. :D

First, thank you MT for taking the time to produce this comparison. It's exactly what I've been waiting to see so that I can make my choice.

On my 22 inch Dell monitor, after downloading and expanding, the Sigma appears to be the sharper of the two. I am looking at the ID plate in the center and the number 50 on the right can.

I will have one of these eventually.
Thanks again.

The ONLY definitive aspect of this comparison is how close they really are - as I would expect. HOW you use these lenses will be far more definitive !

It's like comparing a Ferrari with a Lamborghini. Does it really matter if one of them does 0 - 60 2/10 of a second faster?
