Am looking at the Sigma 12-24 lens for my Canon 6D, I found several on eBay for under $500, about half of what it costs new. Would love the Canon wide angle zoom but $2999 is way too steep for my budget. Anyone have experience with this lens? Do you use full frame or crop sensor?
Many thanks!

Hi Finalimage. I have this lens with a Nikon fit. I have used it on both crop and full frame. I bought it for the full frame use. I'm generally pleased with it, and it has improved my photoshop skills (cloning my own feet out of the bottom of the frame) I don't have a lot of w/angle lens experience but it has allowed a different view often enough to justify having it. I tend to make my vista type shots by taking a pano with a 50mm lens.
One thing about this lens however is that the front element protrudes so is very vulnerable to damage. Also, this means that you cannot put front filters on either for effects or protection. There is a rear filter system, but it is very Heath Robinson at best.
I did use it to take some church interior shots that would have been just about impossible with the rest of my set-up.
Certainly I would recommend it if you can give it enough usage.
try Tokina 12-24 great lens and less than $500

there is the original and then there is the second version which goes for more $$. I have the lens and it's great on my 5DII....in fact, I first purchased one of the Canon 14mm f/2.8 lenses and it was quite bad....not sharp at all at the edges. I got the Sigma factory refurbished from KEH for about $700 and am very pleased with it....
I have this lens and have been using it for a few years on my Canon 5DII (full frame). Back when I purchased it I had read several articles concerning the inconsistency of quality from one unit to another. I have found that it produces very acceptable photos from 16mm to 24mm, but I won't use it below 16mm due to considerable distortion around the edges. This may not be the case with all copies of that lens, but it surely is with mine.
Works fine--but I bet you would like the 8-16 better

The Tokina is a "crop only" lens.
The Sigma 8-16mm is also a "crop only" lens.
The 6D is a full frame camera and the Sigma 12-24 is a full frame lens.
