As we dont have enough stuff to worry about.
As most Americans recycle can soda pop cans and plastic bottles. Californians are going to have to do more. It seems that the folks in charge have come up with Zero Waste.
What this means is by next year, every metal can (like an empty can of peas) must be washed out and put into a plastic bag and then placed into a recycling bin, the same for glass jars.
Then comes the big one, all left over food must also be put in a plastic bag and put into a recycling bin. Of course this means there are going to be a need for a lot of plastic bags, but the folks in charge are working on this one.
In a way I support of this, I just dont see Paris Hilton doing it. It also mite be a boom for your local eatery. I guess they will be adding a recycle tax onto each can or glass jar. No one is saying who is going to get to keep all that money sure wont be us.
I can understand all but the food one ... food is biodegradable but the plastic bags aren't .. can't recycle them together .. so someone is going to have to separate them at the processing plant ... doesn't make much sense.
But then again it is California
Left over food in a plastic bag could be someone's idea of a pre-packaged lunch??
Great, more jobs for the undocumented! Maybe wew can get them to pay social security.
The Army calls them MRE,s

This has got to be one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard of, even in California. What the hell are they gonna turn the leftover food into? Grocery bags? Tires? How badly will this stuff smell after being out in the Warm California Sun for a week between recycle pickups? (Or longer - around here, we get pickup first and third Mondays only.)
There's gotta be some mistake here. Makes no sense.
It has been proven over and over and over and over that the only item which makes sense both economically AND environmentally to recycle is aluminum. It is the ONLY material that costs LESS to recycle than to CREATE NEW. Recycling paper is idiotic. That's like picking the corn out of your poop to re-plant it.
So what effect does this have on Californias massive water shortage situation????
Been recycling here for years.....very little waste, Chickens take care of all food lftovers and what they can't have is composted.....Maybe California just needs more chickens!!!!!!!

Only if you can train those buzzards to eat your leftovers!!!! (the ones in suits!)
Just what Cal needs when they are on the brink of financial disaster. Worse than fools. The gray ponytail crowd has been a disaster once they got into power and they're so idealistic they are beyond reasonable and common sense compromises. Fools.

Hahahaha, and they make fun of us Southerners. What a bunch of boobs out there on the left coast.
... More chickens, and more pigs. Pigs love to eat "slop," made up of all kinds of solid food stuff mixed with a little water.

Perhaps Mr. Dietxanadu is having a bit of fun at our expense.
I have been unable to force Google to corroborate any of the stated claims.
Links please.

If he is then I still read a lot into the fact that this is a believable story given that it is supposed to be happening in California.
