Hi Alan, if you remember JR1 you will know the ropes on here.
Personally I didn't mind him, his attitude was not liked but he had the knowledge.
Anyway welcome to you, there are quite a few UK members on here so you have swollen the group a bit more.
John.
Thanks for the welcome John.
Like yourself, I didn't mind JR1 at all and used to look for his posts. As you say, he was very knowledgeable and gave good advice.
I am pleased to be participating in the forum rather than just reading it.

I'm Alan from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the UK and thought it was about time I joined in on the forum. Been following UHH for years now, from the rantings of JR1 to the present.
I've had problems with alcohol all my adult life although I've always been keen on photography, starting with a Zenit E and working my way through Pentax, Olympus and finishing with the F series Nikon's.
In 2008 I was given 2 weeks to live due to the damage alcohol had done to my body, and my consultant had given up on me. After a serious detox I took up photography again as my inspiration to keep me off the drink. When I felt myself weakening, I would go to the local camera shop, look in the window and tell myself "You can't have both"!
I'm finding the digital world fascinating and I am learning every day mostly due to the help and advice from you guy's.
Thanks Alan

Hello from The Shire and Welcome to the Hog! I think you will find this place very helpful and enjoyable.
Just a few helpful hints that I have learned that might help you get started...
1. To answer a comment click on the "quote reply" It will address your comment automatically
2. Click on a person's highlighted handle on their avatar and it will take you to their page. Click on the highlighted "number of topics created" and you can view their work.
3. While you're on that page add them to a "Buddies List" if you like their work
4. Avail yourself with the download on a post... Often there is so much more in the download
Enjoy The Hog

Thanks for the welcome and the tips Frodobaggins, handy to know.
Welcome to the forum, Alan. Life is all about choices, and coming here is a good one. Best wishes for a full recovery, and photography is an excellent way to keep those demons at bay. Many good people here for support and friendship, and UHH is every bit as addictive as alcohol, but without the downside. Look forward to seeing your photos!
