Hi all. My wife and I are wintering in SC just below Charlotte (Fort Mill SC) for a month or month and a half. I am looking for interesting places to visit with my camera as day trips. We like parks and hiking (not too strenuous as we are in our 60s), scenic towns/villages, fun events that may be taking place, open to most anything. Would also be happy to meet up with any photographers in the area.
Thanks for your help.

Brevard, NC which is southwest of Asheville, NC butts up to Pisgah forest with lots of great hiking. Ceasars Head, SC is on the way if you take 276. My best friend lives in Brevard and does a lot of hiking in both areas. Highlands, NC is a great little town on 64 if you and your wife like boutique type shopping.
Catawba Indian reservation a few miles south in Rock Hill. Never
been there, but planning to go next week, Might be interesting.
Might want to go to the speedway in Charlotte. NASCAR museum. All on Interstate 77.
I don't know how far you want to go, but savannah GA is so beautiful and has lots of really great landscapes. Another is HHI SC so beautiful and lots of really cool places to see, they have a butterfly reserve too. (But it is most likely not the best time of year for that). If you like car shows there are lots of them all the time on HHI.
Hope this helps a little.

Well for one you have the city of Charlotte to shoot, also they have a greenway for walking, many miles of trails, Andrew Jackson State Park, Latta Plantation, many different opportunities...
Get up early one morning, maybe a Saturday with a forecast for sun and drive down to Charleston to catch dawn or at least as early in the morning as possible and start at the waterfront (White Point Garden) and work your way through the small streets heading toward Market St. Take the ferry to Ft Sumter as well.
We will check these out today, tks.

We've been around Rock Hill and seen signs about the reservation. Great idea, I'll find out where it is and plan that in.

We are usually here for a few days, so have never done any Charlotte time. It's about time we did. Tks

We have picked up brochures about Charleston and will try a b&b for a few days late Feb or early March. Don't know when flowers and greenry start there. It seems like too much to see for a day trip. Tks for the shooting ideas.
I just went through the shothotspot listings for this area. What a great web site. I didn't know it existed. Tks for sharing it.

Brevard is a great place for shoots. Lots of walking trails small water falls and creeks. Look for the legendary white squirrels while there. Then stay on hwy 64 to Highlands. You will pass by lots of waterfalls along the way.
Don't forget the Biltmore House in Asheville, that is a must do. While there drive up to the Grove Park Inn. Beautiful grounds, and buildings. Overlooks the city of Asheville. Many past presidents and dignitaries have stayed there. You can have dinner there and shoot spectacular sunset over the mountains. Get a table by the huge picture windows.
Also take a drive to Grandfather Mountain. Walk out on the swinging bridge for beautiful mountain vistas. From there you can get on the Blue Ridge Parkway and drive however far you want North or take it back towards Asheville.
Get on I-26 and drive to Charleston....then don't leave for a couple of days or more. Great place!
Take I-74 and then take exit to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. You can take the elevator up to the top of Chimney Rock, then walk down.
The Asheboro, NC zoo is really nice. The animals all roam free. Great place for getting good shots of animals in a more natural setting.
You are about 3 hours from the Nantahala Gorge near Bryson City in Western NC. Beautiful area.
You are about 6 hours or so from Savannah. Another place to spend a couple of days.
You have lots of options for one and two day trips from Charlotte and Rock Hill. Enjoy your time there.
