Hello all -

Just survived "the big" birthday and hubby surprised me with my first advanced camera. (before I had point/clicks)

I am so happy to have found this forum and am amazed by your help and generosity. I look forward to many - many years of learning.

On my first photo outing I had mixed results - this first picture has too much haze - I am assuming I moved while clicking -
The second picture was better but I look forward to improving my photo ability -
The third -I just never could get this canyon shot -

I would appreciate your thoughts of my framing, subject and well - just about anything and everything that will help me!

Thanks

Hi I love the Mts and scenery in #1. #2 is clearer. #3 the sky seems white. I'm a newbie so I can't give much advise. Thanks so much for sharing. I'm still using a P&S. But I'm learning so much here. Thanks everyone.

pic #2 the falls is great. #3 maybe white balance would have brightened up this scene

These are lovely shots and I like your composition. In the 1st one the haze is not from camera movement---that would be blur. What camera are you using? To eliminate haze you could use a filter on the front of your lens. In the 3rd. shot perhaps you could crop out the colorless sky and boost the color saturation in PP. Just some ideas....

My guess - and that is all it is; kinda of the way I live my life, is that in the first picture the haze you see is not because you moved your camera but because it was actual haze - very likely humidity coming off the foliage. A UV filter on you lens would have got rid of some of it. Also a early morning or late evening shot would have made it less obvious both because your light source would have been lower in the sky and the temp would have been lower. Camera movement would have given you an out of focus shoot. I could show you a truckload of examples - all mine.
I like #2 - nice framing and shows the movement of the water. #3 is nice but you might want to consider a circular polarizing filter which would let you add some blue to the sky. Again and for always a general rule is the best light for outside shots is very early or very late. Yes I know - often we have to take the photo when we are there. Most of the photos you see by the pros like at National Geographic are dawn or dusk photos.
