Shooting after total hip replacement

Thank all of you who encouraged me to not give up shooting after my surgeon had told me I could neither bend at the waist nor sit on the ground after hip replacement surgery. Two days ago I went to an old cemetery and shot about 50 photos, photo shopped them to b/w and sepia, and they're fine, considering I've not been out for a couple of months. I parked my walker, SLOWLY lowered myself to the ground using my good leg, laid on my side, slid up and down small hills, and had a heck of a good time. Thank you to all of you. You are wonderful friends. Sookie

Your body dictates your actions, not your doctor. Although listening to the Doctor helps, it is not a final statement.

God bless you for not giving up a passion due to a minor setback. I'm sure as long as you take it slow and easy while you discover any limitations you may have, all will be fine. Hope we can get a look at some of these post surgery shots. Take care and keep that shutter clicking.
(I'm really struggling to avoid saying something about shooting from the hip)

After 2 THRs I recommend taking the doctors advise seriously!! Premature overuse of your hip will cause the bone growth to the stem to slow or even totally fail. After a full year you will have no restrictions. Not sure why you are still in a walker after 2 months though, I was lightly using a cane only after 2 months.

I had a total done in 2004. Don't rush into things. After a few months I had to stop and think which hip had been replaced. It takes a little time to get back to normal. I have to say it was one of the best things I ever did. Meanwhile there are a lot of areas of our hobby that don't require excessive mobility. Work on those facets for a while.
