Based on your title, I know what you were going for. Think you will have a stronger image that does justice to your title if you crop about a third of the sky. Yes, you would like to keep the moon but in my opinion it does not add to this image. Also, a little straightening of the horizon would help. On down load, some of the objects in the foreground distract my eye. All of the above suggestions are minor fixes but could be major improvements to your nicely composed image.

I agree with Wow about the moon. It's always nice to include it, but I think in this instance it's too small to be noticeable enough to make a difference. I don't agree about the items in the foreground, as I think they add a lot of interest to the image.

If it were mine, I'd up the contrast a bit - bring up the blacks a little. I wonder if increasing the clarity would emphasize the lines in the sand a bit more.

Dave,

You have the beginning of a memorable image, there may not be much you can do to improve what you have posted, but there is the chance to learn something new in composition.

The purpose of good composition is to lead the eye to the principle subject, and to allow supporting elements to add impact to the principle subject.

Ninety percent of good composition is performed in camera, through the viewfinder, ten percent can be accomplished in post processing in the computer.

Looking at your image try cropping out the dunes and large portion of blue sky, leaving the two trees and foreground sand. This could have been done with the camera on scene and positioning of the camera to provide more leading lines with the late shadows from both trees leading the eye to the larger tree (the Survivor).

Composition is all in how you look at a subject, and how you want to tell the story you observe at the scene.
