My Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II printer has not been used all summer long and now that I need it refuses to obey any commands from PS 6 coming from the latest Mac OS 10. I tried the connections (unplugged and plugged again in different places), reinstalled printer driver software from the original CD and from the internet. I even managed to print two different test prints that show correct levels (replaced four nearly depleted ones) and made a few prints through Preview. Still, when I command it to print from PS 6, it receives the order but doesn't respond or say what's wrong. Not sure what to do next!

The printer driver from the cd probably won't work with the new Mac os. You'll have to use a driver that works with the os. Does it print from another Adobe product? From another non-Adobe product? Trying to isolate where the glitch is can help, whether printer, apple or Adobe...

I suspect it too but a mental block has prevented me from remembering where to find and check the ONLINE/OFFLINE setting!

It's an interesting suggestion but as I was reinstalling it the computer automatically upgraded the printer driver to match OS 10!

Try printing from different apps as I suggested earlier. If it prints from anything other than test patterns, it's online. Try to isolate which apps are not working with the driver.

I restarted the computer. I am also able to print from Preview and iphoto. I believe photoshop is not communicating with the printer properly.

A real mystery! Go into system preferences to 'Print and Fax,. Delete the Canon and then add the printer back into the list. Also, you might check to see if the printer is showing up in the CS 6 print dialog box.

OK, so now you know it is restricted to Adobe and not the printer itself. Is this PS CC or a freestanding version? Have you tried reinstalling PS since you upgraded to Adobe? I've read that this was necessary with PS5 but don't recall seeing anything specific about PS6. I've also read recommendations to completely delete the printer/driver and reinstall rather than installing new on top of old. If you google key words "pixma won't print photoshop Yosemite" you'll find that you are not alone, small comfort I know.

Thank you all for a really great discussion and meaningful advice. I will follow up on your suggestions and let you know what happens. For what's worth, I will also try the Adobe site for PS6 troubleshooting. More soon.

Try the Apple and Canon sites too, sometimes the person who solved the problem is only one place.

I had this same thing happen to me with an Epson printer after the Mac OS Mavericks update, and one lone fellow in Germany had figured out a word you could type into the print preferences panel to make the problem disappear. I never saw a word about it anywhere else but it fixed my problem.

Best of luck to you on this!

How many printers do you have connected to your computer?

If you have more than one chances are the wrong printer is selected in the printer driver menu that opens when you go to the print menu in PS 6.

Also, one will be selected as the default printer in the Apple printer preferences panel and it may not be the one you want to use for photo printing.

I have two printers an epson 1400 and a 3880 and use the 1400 for my every day printing ( the default printer) and the 3880 for my for my best prints and need to make sure that one is selected as the "printer" in Lightroom, Photoshop, and onOne Perfect Photo suite when I use the print menu in those apps on my Mac.

Hope this helps.

I have three: the new Canon Pro9000MarkII, the old Canon S9000 and the HP Envy4500 (copier/printer for menial jobs). When doing fine prints, the Pro9000MArkII is the default PS 6 and I always check to make sure it still is. You are right, though, I may have to delete the old Canon S9000 just in case it confuses the system. At this point though, it looks as though the problem came up as a result of upgrading to the OS 10 latest system. I need to delete and reinstall PS 6. When you do this, the computer automatically upgrades PS 6 to the OS 10 specs. At least, I think so.Thank you for your suggestion,
Sarantis
