I offer this composition for comments. There are so many variables to the best way to crop this one (Rule of Thirds, Rule of Space, general impact at first view).
This is No. 4 grandson. I used Topaz Simplify lightly.
What do you think about the cropping? I have a fair amount of image space outside of the crop. Thanks in advance.
Cropping is a creative sense, not subject to rigid rules. Remember that the more you crop out the more pixels you lose! Less pixels =less sharpness. For me I would crop as a 3/4 shot, reducing the background, as well as using a shallow depth of field. On my monitor the color in your image looks over saturated! I feel the most important part of the shot is your grandson, not the background! Backgrounds tend to compete for attention in a composition. Especially the background in your shot looks very busy and distracting. Focus your attention on composition. Cropping then becomes the way to bring out your initial composition.
