Hi guys, here I go again for help from you. As some of you know I am useless on computers and can just about find my way round them to enjoy viewing my photographs. I am now wanting to buy a tablet so that when I go on holiday or even at home to view my shots. I have installed on my laptop Adobe Elements 11 (which I still have not come to terms with) and also photomatic which I have more success with. Anyone out there have a suggestion on a suitable tablet so I can view my photos as I have noticed my childrens ipads are much clearer than my 6year old laptop screen. (which I am happy to keep ) the tablet will be very handy for travelling. I obviously need ease of use as somewhat dumb when it comes to technology . Cheers in anticipation.

For viewing photos right now the iPad air (current or 2) and the new Nexus 9 both have an excellent screen resolution of 2048 x 1536.
The Nexus has the slightly better pixel density though so the images will be just bit sharper.

So your next decision might be going with Apple or Android depending on which OS you feel more comfortable using.

You are looking at $400 or more either way.

The "trick" is how convenient on inconvenient it is to get the photos from a camera to the tablet. Many seem to do it best through internet connections and that can be challenging on holiday trips.

Forgive me for asking as I am not much of a computer guru either but I don't see how the Internet connection has anything to do with transferring photos from the camera to the tablet. Don't you simply plug a USB cable from camera to tablet and download?

Apple tablets don't have a USB port you can connect to your camera. You can use an Eye-fi SD memory card in your camera that will transfer you images directly to your mobile device. My Nikon camera has built in wifi that talks to my android tablet via a free app.

Maybe, maybe not. It will depend on the camera and the tablet you have.

For example, my DW gave me a Kindle Fire HD about a year ago. It has a gorgeous display. There are two easy ways to put pictures on it. One is that Amazon offers an app for the PC where if you right click a file you will see "Send to Kindle" choice. The second is to plug the Kindle directly into the computer via USB and manually use Windows explorer to copy photos like you would to and external HD.

You can't connect the camera and there is not SD card slot on the Kindle.

There is a converter for USB -> Thunderbolt.

I bought a 1st Gen iPad for the purpose of downloading from the camera for viewing and backup while on travel. Those things were a bit more difficult than I expected and quite frankly more difficult than they should have been. So I ended up reverting back to taking the laptop which also allowed me full access to my editing and cataloging tools, and reverted to using the iPad for reading and surfing the net. I love it for that.

Now that was a long time ago, I have a new iPad Air now and I love it for reading and surfing the net, and viewing/showing off my photos. I'm not a finger painter and so I haven't tried editing using the iPad.

Yes I'm happy with it, the Retina screen is great. It's big enough for me, but I don't use it for photo editing, I use it for viewing.

I recommend you visit an Apple store and try the device. Bring some of your photos on a flash card and ask the employees to show you how to load & view photos on it, etc.
