I shoot a lot of shots using neutral density plastic square filters. I am looking for a plastic neutral density to fit the front of my Nikon 14-24mm zoom. My smaller filters do not cover at 14mm. I would need a least a 4 inch by 4 inch plastic #8 neutral density filter. My smaller ones are not expensive, they can scratch easily but they are cheap and I can replace them. Anyone know of a source for cheap 4X4 or 6X6 filters. And yes, cheap plastic filters are just as good as glass ones, they work really great, especially on water movement.

The Lee system is an excellent choice--and I'm going to disagree with your statement that cheap plastic filters are as good as glass-- or even high quality plastic. If you are satisfied or wish to save your $s for something else, that's fine, but to say they are "as good as" is not true.

No plastic filters I know about can match optical glass ... yet. Some of the better resin filters are optically pure and just as good however.

And your reply is typical of this site. I have used plastic ND filters for 40 years, blow my shots to 30X40 and they are beautiful. Your statement is your opinion, and in this case, you are wrong. Plastic ND filters for my application of blurring water work just as well as glass.

If you're happy with the quality you get, that's fine. But to unequivocally state that "cheap" is just as good as "quality" doesn't hold up. Unless or until you perform the empirical tests to validate your statement.

I shoot with Cokin filters. The XL filters are 4.4 inches square. No, Cokin filters are not made from expensive Schott glass; they are plastic/resin. But with car, they last a long time, and are not expensive to replace.

I use and love Lee filters. I have the 14-24 Nikon f2.8. I can tell you that due to the bulbous nature of that lens you will need a little extra add on piece to the filter holder to block light from entering the back of that filter. I bought mine a year or two ago. It may already be included on the newer ones, but verify it before you purchase it.

Also Lee's are hand made and a ton better in quality than any plastic filter out there. This does not mean you can't get a good quality plastic filter, but they are in no way as good quality as Lee. All ND filters can create a slight color cast, but you should not be afraid of this. It is easily removable in PP in less than 10 seconds. The color cast from Lee's are blueish and slightly purple. So if you don;t know how to remove a color cast, you need to Google it's really simple to do. here is a sample SOOC from a Lee 150 Big Stopper so you can see a color cast.

Let the fun begin.

Yea, but I don't think they make a holder for that bulbous lens of the Nikon 14-24.f2.8. The Lee one is a custom holder just for that lens.

Most of these will NOT work with that Nikon Lens. Make very sure you tell anyone you purchase from what lens you are fitting this for. The Nikon 14-24 f2.8 takes a very custom holder. As far as I know only Lee makes one to fit it. Lee calls it their 150 holder.
