Is anyone using a WD My Cloud drive with Lightroon? I have limited space on my MacBook Pro's harddrive and it can't be upgraded. I want to use the My Cloud drive to store my photos and get them off the MacBook's internal harddrive. I want to use the wireless capability of the drive. After setting it up, the MacBook sees the new drive but Lightroom doesn't see it. Anybody using it in this way and if so how the heck did you get Lightroom to see the new wireless drive?

I have no experience with the WD drive but have been thinking of doing the same as you. Try exporting a couple of photos in Lightroom and see if the drive shows upon the destination.

Maybe this will help.

Thanks for the link. My problem is Lightroom doesn't find the My Cloud drive. It is seen in Finder but not Lightroom. I can move them to an external drive plugged in via a USB cable.

I can export to the My Cloud drive but that doesn't get me what I want to use the drive for which is to use it as my main storage for my pictures to get them off the internal drive. Hum, I wonder if I can import to the drive? That would at least get new ones on the My Cloud drive. Won't help me in moving them but at least the new ones will be there. Will try that and report back.

Something doesn't sound right if you can export a photo through Lightroom to a folder on the cloud drive. Lightroom can see the drive.

On the folder tab in Lightroom there is a + sign to add a folder, it will open finder. Can you see the cloud drive from there? If so add a folder called test and then see if you can move a couple of photos to that folder.

With any luck Searcher will see this and chime in.

The cloud drive doesn't show up in the finder tab.

I am using the 8TB MyCloud Mirror (in a RAID 1 configuration) with LR. The trick is, you need to be sure you are connected to the Public Share from Finder. Then LR can see it. My LR catalog is on my iMac but all my actual photos are in the MC.

Thanks. I'll check this out tonight when I get home from work. Can I PM you if I need additional information?

I believe your issue lies in the fact that you are "wirelessly connecting" to the drive. Furthermore, it wouldn't surprise me that LR expects to see 'mapped' drives. By that, I mean the drive must be assigned a drive letter.

I use the WD My Cloud, but not wirelessly. It is connected by copper into my router. I have it mapped as drive P:. It's no problem for me to write files to it from LR, if I so desire. I don't do it that way as a normal course, but could if I wanted.

I have a MyCloud Mirror and, I could be wrong, but didn't think I could connect to my network wirelessly with the Drive. I connected mine to my router with wire also. My Computer connected to my network wirelessly. FWIW I use my MyCloud Mirror to store all my LR Photos. (I store the catalog on my local computer, but the actual pictures get stored on the MyCloud).

It appears (and I'm no pro) that LR only "recognizes" things physically connected to the machine that LR is on....aka HDDS or the internal HDD.

I know little of this Cloud non-sense but I have four 2TB WD My Passport Ultra External HDDs, and via USB cable Lightroom works from them. Wifi stuff can be tricky.

I use it all the time, Import the select source at the top, then select OTHER. I should show the Public Drive on WDMYCloud.
