I am finally ready to buy that new camera I have been talking about for over a year. NOTHING should get in the way this time. MT Shooter recommended the D7000 a year ago. I can find the bodies around $600.00
I need to keep it under $1,000. I want live view and video options. Something that does will under low light conditions with minimal noise.

If you are interested, I have a D7100 here that was traded in on a D750 2 weeks ago. Less than 2000 clicks on it, looks like new, in the box with everything that came with it from the factory. $895 shipped to your door.

I remember the D7000 being advertised that you could "take shots in near darkness". I like that!

For high ISO with minimal noise, you would be better off with a full-frame camera. Consider a D600, 610 of D750.

I've been quite happy with my D7000. I don't shoot much at higher iso - 800 is about as fast as I go. Here's a set from a evening/night visit to Washington, DC. No tripod for this visit. Shot with a Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S. I used the movie setting once so I can't really talk about that.

If I could afford any of those. I really need to keep it under $1000. But thanks for the input.

I have both the D7000 and the D7100 Judy, both are wonderful cameras, but there is a huge difference between the two. The D7100 is a fantastic piece of equipment. Mt's deal is worth looking at. Good luck in your choice!

I also was in your position a yea ago. I asked here that same question and they recommended I go to the second hand camera way. I found ANDORAMA was great for redoing cameras that were not new and they made them even better. I got a Nikon D5100. You might not want that but I can tell you that I have been HIRED and PAID to take portraits of people using that camera.

Whichever camera you choose remember...Just as the Mercedes someone owns isn't driving the vehicle , the person behind the wheel is
.... The camera isn't taking the photo .... YOU ARE.

just something to ponder.

Thank you. If I go full frame I HAVE to go used. I would probably buy form MT Shooter or KEH. I am taking a trip to Iceland in Feb to shoot auroras so it has been suggested that I try very hard to find a full frame that I can afford.

Yes, but a Mercedes is worthless if you need a Jeep.
Many cameras are purpose specific and for what the OP wants to do a crop sensor camera will not be technologically sufficient.
