Personal preference - if you are comfortable with a smaller display then no real reason to change...

Personally, my eyes are driving me to larger displays as they present images that are easier for me to see...

I drive a 27" mid-2010 iMac, and I like being able to see my images at a fairly large size. Gives me an better idea as to how well they'll print.

Now to save some $$ so's I can get a new 27" Retina iMac!

Larger display is a personal preference, for old eyes, it is
definitely advantageous.

Love the cartoon. As a computer guy for the last 17 years, my customers are all getting older. I can definitely relate, especially if you add in screen readers for folks with glaucoma and macular degeneration. It's a great time to be alive. Long after the kids have taken away the keys to the car, many are still out there surfing the web.

Since this is essentially a GAS (gear acquisition) forum I must have to go with: "bigger must always be better"

Fifteen inches is about right if you wear reading glasses - anything bigger and you'll become a nodding donkey. :D

I wouldn't say you 'need' a larger display, but it's sure nice to be able to work with an image on a larger screen. I worked with a 19" for years, and finally moved up to a 27" and very much appreciate the larger display. Just personal preference I guess.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

For editing, definitely, 27" is not necessary, however, it's surprising to know just how many amateur photographers and their peers are not interested in having prints made whereby their main interest is simply sharing images upon their PC monitors which, then, a 27" monitor or even a larger monitor, enables viewing to become quite enjoyable for them which easily can be understood.

My eyes are not the best but find the 17 inch screen on my laptop works OK most of the time.

If you wanted to see what a large print would look like could you hook up to a flat screen TV? Many are larger than any actual print you may do.
