KEH rating system and New Lens

Today Fed Ex stopped and dropped off my new (Used) lens. Nikon 18-200mm VRI lens. I'm writing this because it is the first time I have used KEH and the order was flawless. The lens was rated EX by KEH but is more like (LN=Like New). Order arrived in time and the Lens was well packed. In fact packaging over kill. $299.00 without caps and $311.00 with caps. I opted for the $299.00 deal because I have the caps in my camera bag. Anyone hesitant about using KEH don't worry. They are right up there with the best of them.

Always good to hear positive comments about good companies. I've found the same thing with them. Their rating system is very conservative. I bought a BGN (Bargain) D-70 to give to someone who really wanted to get into photography. It came in without a mark. I would have called the BGN Excellent +. The shutter count was not too bad considering the price and age (about 40,000) The girl I gave it to, has moved up from apprentice to second shooter for us, and can now afford to get her own DSLR, and guess where she's going to buy it? KEH.

I've used KEH for about 20 years without a problem. Their rating is conservative; I bought a Pentax LX in "BGN" condition, it had a little brassing on the self timer and a few scratches on the base plate. No dents, no dings. I blew out a little dust in the finder and it works perfectly. Don't forget the 14 day return privilege and the warranty. Good people!

I have been using keh.com for almost 20 years. Their grading is very conservative, they are very reliable, and they have a good return policy and warranty.

I have used them several times in the last few years, and have never been disappointed in their service.

Don't mean to veer off topic too far, but I'm curious about lens rating systems. You mentioned EX and LN... Is there one standard rating system that all vendors use, and if so what is it? Moreover, how can I get my lenses officially rated---if there is such a thing. I have several Canon lenses I no longer use, and would like to rate them for my wife in case she decides to sell them when I'm gone someday.

Although the ratings are similar from all providers KEH is known for under-valuing their merchandise. People have mentioned, in this thread, that they bought "Bargain" gear from KEH that other sellers would have rated Ex and above. As for getting ratings on your lens's, that is normally done at point of sale.

I too have bought from KEH. They are the best in used gear. Will buy there again. The ratings of gear are not comparable to other sites as there is no standard.

i too highly recomend KEH. the prices are better then anywhere else, the free 6 month warranty, the fact that what comes in the box has been cleaned and looks brand new. excellant customer service. when i need equipment i look to keh first. you can pick up used nikon speedlights inexpensively
