Hello all.
I have been asked to be linked to a website with my own site or a blog. Well this was the year I was going to do that, did not happen. I paid $$$ to a program that would help etc etc. but they didn't and I didn't. So not to have that experience again, is there a very simple site out there that I could use. I am not totally computer dumb, but not a rocket scientisit either, something really simple would be great, any ideas?
Thanks,
Wendy

I think Word Press where I have my blog features a free option.
I average 500-700 hits a day and have had views from 150 different countries so WP has a nice worldwide following.

There is a free option with Blogger or WordPress. I have tried both and in my opinion WordPress is easier to use. Blogger is more configurable but sometimes that can be a downside.

WordPress run Weekly Photo Challenges

They also have lots of tutorials for new bloggers which are easy to follow

There are also plenty of free themes that you can use to provide elements of customisation. I use one that lets me diplay my photographs at 1200 pixels wide if you are using a browser

Hope this helps you

There are a number of sites that host for free but you might have advertising included on your pages. For total control you can create your own site. This can be as little as a domain name and some free hosting space. Most people want a bit more and will want to use a content management system such as wordpress, usually your host will provide you with a one click install and then you customise within a theme you choose (can be less than $50 a year for a shared host). I do this and I also host for friends too (we share the space they just need to buy a name)

you can also do this on a free wordpress account too and it will be a similar experience.

It takes a while to learn how to use a content management system but you are using one right now and adding to this site. Once you have decided the look of the site the rest is just adding posts and pages pretty much.

I've been on Google's Blogger for a few years and I post about 300 pictures and daily reports from twice a year mission trips to Kenya. We do vision clinics in the slums of Nairobi, along with other teams that go out into the countryside. Check it out at http://notesfromthemissionfield.blogspot.com or just do a web search for the phrase "notes from the mission field". It's easy to use, I update it from laptops, desktops, Android tablets and an Android smartphone whenever I have access to wifi. I compose a lot of what I do offline on plane rides and other places and then copy and paste it in Blogger when I have Internet. Hope this helps. Good luck!

It was wordpress that I bought, but for what ever reason did not find it easy and did not find helpful information. it was my fault I am sure, but I really liked what I saw of the options, I just could not get to the options! I have forgotten my password by now anyway. I willl check your links later tonight. Have to go to work.
Thanks so much,
Wendy

[quote=PW4GDF]Hello all.

Wendy, will you use this as a commercial site, i.e. sell anything? photos? or will it be personal, and more a hobby?
I write my blog with "Live Writer" very easy to set up, alter, choose a font, or several, in the same posting, insert photos,( I do edit them in Picasa first) then publish in blogger. You set this up, then go to Publish, enter your password, and it goes. Blogger has very limited fonts, and to insert photos is a pain. With Live Writer you can do it off line, and publish later if you want to. Some of my friends use Word Press, one has her own site with Weebly, a paid one, I am at

http://jeanmckinstry.blogspot.co.nz

or All Points of The Compass.
I hope this and other suggestions give you the answer. Cheers, Nancy J
