Several of these bumble bees are presently visiting my butterfly bush. Quite the disconcerting buzz when you get in close.
Based on the green eyes and the characteristic black "bald spot" on thorax, this is most likely a female Common Eastern Carpenter bee (Xylocopa virginica):

You are absolutely correct, Douglass. They like to drill into my house! And they make perfectly round holes too. Natures drill bit. Judging by their name I would wish them back to Virginia. :wink:
