On a recent trip to Cape Cod, we saw this lady resting in her nest and I had to try to capture the moment. Bill
You have unusual exposure parameters for image #2. Normal exposure in full sunlight is 1/ISO at f/16. That means your normal exposure at ISO 200 should be 1/200-sec at f/16. Why such a high ISO? Your Creative Program mode is working against you.

I'm still learning the settings on this camera. I'm having problems when I press the shutter halfway, in auto mode it wants to take the item closest to the lens, i.e. a twig or other object in front of the subject. Thank you for the help Douglass. I really appreciate your insight, Bill

You need to change your camera auto-focus to "small central spot". That way, when you center a spider, it will be in focus, not twigs. But focus has nothing to do with your exposure settings. If you want to
learn photography, then shoot in
Manual, 1/ISO at f/16 in full sun. You can adjust exposure from there.
Auto is for those who want to let their cameras "take pictures".
Thanks Douglass. No more auto focus for me. I really appreciate your advice and will use it very soon. Bill

Auto-focus is fine! That is all I use, but you must set your camera auto-focus to
small center spot.
