Eastern Boxelder Bug (Boisea trivittata) = a true bug.

Related to Red Shouldered bug (Jadera haematoloma), western U.S.

Thank you for the info. I knew he was a boxelder bug, didn't know he had a western cousin. These guys don't really hurt any thing they are just every where.

Boxelders are rare out west, so I was happy to see such a good set of photos. I especially like image #2. A little PP could easily eliminate that errant hair.

Here is another one without the hair. I don't think the focus is as good on this one. But no hair.

With insect and animal photography, it is imperative that eyes be in focus. This image is just a millimeter back-focused on shoulder-plate behind head. I HATE when that happens!

Definitely not in focus. Good thing this wasn't my only shot. :lol:
Even if it had been I have lots of these guys to practice on.
