I think some may be misunderstanding what the problem is,and I think it might stem from many people posting so many times a day with only ONE picture in each post, why not post ONCE a day with many pictures in that ONE post! I try to post only once a week, and put all my shots in that one post, weather its 2,3,4, shots or one! I also don't think anyone it purposely trying to hog anything, they just may not have thought of it! Keep shooting everyone!!

I think you're right. I've not done a good job of explaining what I was trying to say and I think the message has gotten lost in the words. But, a big part of the problem also is that if your 1 post doesn't make the digest, apart from your buddy list and the people who go to the gallery list, nobody will know you made a post and it'll skip off into obscurity so the fear of that happening is no doubt what's behind the multiple posts with single images. I understand the urge to flood the submissions but when someone does that, it screws everyone else. The thing is though that if everyone did as you do it would equal the odds of making the Digest for everyone which would be good, better than now. The more I think about it the less I'm believing there's a good answer for everyone but those few who are "flood" posting multiple submissions are really putting it to the rest of the people who want the feedback real bad. It's good for them and bad for everyone else. Thanks for your comment.

This thread has me scratching my head. Perhaps I'm just naive but I don't believe posting more than 1 thread in a day is wrong in any way or that it usurps a spot for anyone in "the digest". When you say there are only 35 spots in it, I assume you mean in the Photo Gallery section. The digest actually will be different for every member based on what sections a person subscribes to. My daily digest has spots for around 96 topics. YMMV. When the topics are e-mailed they are all pretty much set in stone except for the upcoming topics which are continually updated. Nothing I do that I know of can change that, so if I post 10 topics,by the time the next one is sent, I have been in bed for a number of hours. I think I recall maybe having one or two topics posted in the digest at some time, but so what? I didn't post them to make the digest or to get thousands of responses. If I post in the photo gallery, it's because I think I might have gotten a shot that's an improvement over my past posts. If I post something and no one comments I can pretty much assume that it wasn't very good. I also don't post hoping for great acclaim of a so-so photo. If I could do better by changing something like composition or focus, I hope someone will let me know. Hopefully others that post do so for some of the same reasons, but I doubt very much if anyone has posted multiple times in a day in order to monopolize the daily digest. One other reason I may post in the photo gallery is if I think I may have a set of photos that show something others may not have seen before or to educate folks who don't live in a rural area and might like to learn about how things are outside the city (maybe even our friends on the other side of the big pond).

I have learned one thing from all this discussion: that there is something called "the digest". Until now I was completely unaware of its existence. So now I know about it, but do not plan to utilize it.

LOL!!! You don't get that chance tho. That is the problem. The Admin picks the posts that go into the Daily. And he/she must really like me.:) Just go to the bottom of any page and you will see the link to it. Hope you make it in one of these days.:)

This thread has me scratching my head. Perhaps I'm... (show quote)

If you sign up to join uhh and list an email address you will, very soon if not the next morning about 3 am, start getting an email each morning with a url in it that will lead to the Daily Digest with a list of sections, a few contests list below the heading but above everything else, then comes the Main Section, a general subject discussion section with a varying amount of threads people wish to discuss, then a Chit Chat section for discussions on non-photo related subjects with also a varying number of threads for discussion, then comes the Photo Gallery and currently there are usually 35 threads where people display their images for "show and tell" or for critique and analysis. After that is the Classified section where people buy and sell items, mostly photographic. Then is the section for voluntary Introductions of new members, and finally a Links and Resources section which often lead to tips people might like to have, member populated - as are each section, members supply all the threads in each section.

That Daily Digest is what I've just described above by section. If you don't get an email about that, perhaps you've never seen it. All submissions to uhh are considered for inclusion in that basic Digest. You do not have a choice of whether or not your submission is accepted for inclusion there or not - it will happen automatically if Admin selects your submission for inclusion. If you receive a url to another document from uhh each morning then it will be because you have subscribed to some additional special interests sections such as the Macro section. I have not subscribed to any additional sections as I think it is with perhaps most of the members, certainly noobs who don't know their way around the forum so my experience is the same each morning when I receive an email giving me a url to today's Daily Digest. Everybody's experience is not different from what I've just described to my knowledge but I cannot swear to that since I don't get anyone else's email. We're only discussing the Picture Gallery from that Daily Digest here. And when you have 55,000 members, 350 of which are active at any given time during the day, a number that remains fairly constant while members come and go throughout the day it is difficult to know how many people have submitted threads for inclusion in the "show and tell/analysis" section. I took a short count of a few days, by date, and using only that limited window was able to determine that for that period I looked at, approximately 150 people a day submit threads intended for consideration for inclusion in the "show and tell/analysis" section. With 150 applying and only 35 slots for inclusion the odds are already pretty low against you getting your thread listed.

If a few members submit multiple threads in a given day it reduces the odds even further with each multiple submission. Is there anything wrong with that? NO, except it deprives all other members of an even shot at inclusion and participation in that section. We live mostly in a culture where all members are entitled at an equal chance at the resources and aren't too tolerant of a scenario where a few people keep getting way more than their fair share of the resources when it obviously deprives others of a shot at the goodies. It sounds as though you may live out away from civilization and therefore may have missed some of the finer points of the importance of sharing in a over-crowded area where there is limited resources. I'm sure you may have seen the news on TV now and then. You must have seen where people get killed on a daily basis for taking other people's fair share of stuff, the more precious the stuff the more angry people become when a few people don't respect the existence and sanctity of others and their desires. Now, I'm not saying that getting your images in the "show and tell section" is all that precious or important but it is the flagrant act of a few people disrespecting everyone else that is at stake in this case - a matter of principle so to speak, a matter of people acting civilized and courteous by not trying to take a little extra piece of meat when others will not get any. Some situations where there is a shortage of resources are guarded over by police to ensure that the resources are meted out as fairly as possible. Other places the goodies are just tossed out on the ground and the most tenacious get as much as they want. That's not what we have here but what we have here does demand a little common respect toward others.

As Erv said, you don't have that option. If you submit a thread to uhh it has a chance, a slim chance, of being included in the "show and tell" section or "Picture Gallery" of the Daily Digest, usually the next day. I looked at your threads you've submitted and you get maybe 200 views on average with a few exceptions which get viewed up to around 1,000 times and one even going over 2,600. I clean out my trash periodically and I have the morning emails that lead me to the Daily Digests only back to Dec 31, 2013 so I can't check any of those threads of yours that go over 1,000 but back to your last thread of 2013 you have not had any threads that have been included in the Daily Digest. Now, if you weren't a retired engineer, a person of some abnormal self-confidence and ability to grasp what is occurring in many technical endeavors and weren't real social and were young and just starting out with photography, you might like to have the opinions of others as opposed to how you fell about that now. Considering that, how do you feel about knowing that a few people are over-utilizing the limited resources here for you to get what you want out of the experience and you can't get a stinkin' morsel??? I'm not a person who has not or cannot get a stinkin' morsel but for you the luck of the draw sure seems to have been working against you if you did desire other's opinions. Now, how do you feel about the people who are grabbing off 4 or 5 extras shares every day?

I'm sorry Mr. West, I can't tell who your comment is directed to, nor can anyone else so you most likely won't get a response directly to your comment. To avoid being ignored in the future if you'd like, when you make a comment if you will select "Quote Reply" rather than just "Reply" the person's comments you're replying to will be included and we will know who your comment is directed to. You can also achieve the same thing by including the person's name as I did yours above. Thank you.

Well, this response is a bit out of character for me, but I cannot stop laughing... But, I guess you got folks to see your moose photos..They really are nice compositions, but seem just a bit blown out or overexposed, mostly on the antlers..... I really do forgive you for using my name.. I am over it .. Smile, life is short.... :)

My intention was to post my opinion and move on but your reply has me questioning your state of mind. I've received the digest since the day I joined. I read it daily. I know exactly how it works. Nothing of which you speak has ever occurred to me or been anything I care about and I believe it would be a primary concern of only a very small percentage of members here. For you to compare the supposed monopolization of the photo gallery to people being killed is a bit over the top.

LOL. I appreciate your opinion and you're certainly entitled to think whatever you choose but are you qualified to "question my state of mind?" Most likely not or you would surely be saying, "I don't have enough information upon which to base an opinion about that.

Just a couple of things, part of my reply to you contained information for the gentleman who didn't seem to understand how the Digest worked and the other thing is that I'd be curious why you think each person has a different experience with the Digest each morning and what you think causes that different experience.

Man, I hear you and you should feel really lucky that you didn't start this stinkin' thread and need to be courteous and reply to everyone who thinks they have something to say that might change my mind. Ain't nobody as bored with this crap as I am. Last I heard you folks north of the border have about all the same freedoms as we do here in the States. Did you come in this time so I could direct you to the "unwatch" button? Are you feeling lonely and want to talk to someone or are you just here again because I ignored your comment the other day? I know I've probably got some of you fooled into thinking I'm a person who likes to talk a lot but on the contrary, I'm really not very conversational at all but I do have to tell you before you go any further, you're not my type but I do recognize that you're probably a cool old dude. I have to hand it to you though, you sure do shoot some exceptional landscapes.
