Amazing what people will eat

Went to Avila Beach last month with friends. Had a nice picnic, good weather, and then this. Much time was spent on gathering these critters to feast on. I couldn't do it. Could only get close enough to get the photo. Can you guess what they are?

Beach Food?
Beach Food?...

They look like they might be sea fleas. We would catch them for my daddy to fish with when we were children. Never heard of eating them before...but that's my guess.

Yes indeed. But these were 'boiled' in oil, stir fried with hot jalapenos and 'boosted' with a little red pepper to boot!

Isn't that something. I used to dig up hundreds of these on the beaches as a kid. Never knew they were edible, not that I would have eaten them. 8-)

I think we called them sand fleas.

Strangely, I ate chicken the other day and, to me, it tasted just like blowfish.

Nikonian72...this is what I was talking about! Glad you posted a picture. Daddy called them "sea fleas"!! It's nice to the correct name for them. I thought they were fish bait! Ewwwww, can't imagine eating them.
