Once the CC system is established you will not be able to find the boxed version.

So? You can't find a Blockbuster Video anymore either. Delivery of digital content is evolving everywhere. It's not just something Adobe dreamed up as part of some diabolical plan to screw the world.

1- Yes. Though they had targeted this for business/industry where there would be many licenses sold at whatever price, they had not reckoned on the amount of fuss we photographers put up. We balked. We may have hurt them more on the PR side than in the pocketbook. Many well known pros were outspoken about their unwillingness to buy into CC at the bloated price first announced, which made Adobe look bad. There were hard feelings inside Adobe with some of the people who write the software that had objections. There was even talk that one of them might write an alternate program "for photographers" to do what lightroom couldn't. (Maybe he is working on in secretly)

2 - Not very fast. They made enough messes the first time and looked like fools. They tested out various special plans until they found our price point. Because they already know what we will do, they won't risk having to do all that again quickly, though probably eventually they (foolishly) will. Hopefully by then, the other companies who are surely working on alternatives will have something to show for it and the market will take care of itself.
This is ONLY my humble opinion: br 1- Yes. Though ... (show quote)

Thanks for your informed response -- I appreciate it.

You're not leasing it, you're purchasing a month of use. All depends on how you look at it.

You have agreed to pay for the entire year though so yes it probably could be considered a 1 year lease paid monthly or you do have the option to pay for the entire year up front.
On the more expensive (complete) version you even get a discount for paying it all up front.

I still don't try and do much with my pictures. If they are bad, I delete them. There is only myself to blame for shooting craps.
Let's go on from here. ;)
There is always more to learn. :-D

Agreed and 99% of the time I do agree with you and enjoy your wisdom and knowledge. As for bad pics I save them to a separate file with sub files for exposure, focus, etc depending on what is wrong... (some are so bad I just delete) but as software improves or my abilities improve, I go back and revisit them.. sometimes you find a gem.

You’re right; Adobe did not dream it up. Actually digital delivery of “boxed” software has been around for a long time. I have been buying the downloaded, “boxed”, version of TurboTax for many years. Now you can also do your taxes on their site and pay as you need it. There are countless other examples including most of the software you download to your phone. Again I was too subtle on my point, sorry but I will not explain now – splitting head ache. Bye

Good point. I should have noticed this.

Questions:
1- did they have to lower the price for this CC to work?
2- How fast will the price increase to where they want it?

I believe that after the CC idea came to market, Adobe advertised a special 9.99 a month "photographers" package that bundled Lightroom, Bridge and Photoshop - it started as a 3 month special - sign up for a year and pay monthly.

The package kept being extended past the 3 month initial date, and then become a permanent (as much as anything is permanent :)) option/package.

How fast will it increase? Only Adobe knows... BUT if it increases past a certain point then it will become too expensive for some/many and other options will be explored I am sure.

From what I see, at least the prices are locked in for at least 1 year at a time regardless of paying monthly or annually.

Very true... However, Adobe states that the current price is for a year from when you sign up so if you sign up now for the $10 package, it will not increase for at least a year.. after that it depends... However, if Adobe has, as they say, more than 3 million subscribers now ( and we don't know how many of those are $10 and how many are $50 and what ever) but 3 mill times those numbers is way more income that Adobe was realizing by any 2 of their last Creative Suite releases and this is monthly not annual. Remember that, When they did (or do) the suite, they have to write the DVDs, print manuals, package, ship to distributers and retailers, and allow pricing in there for them to mark it up and make a profit. With the Cloud, all of the money is theirs. They don't have to share it with anyone. So, they probably won't be to excited about rocking the boat and losing subscribers.. They've had enough trouble fighting the bad PR about the cloud and the nay sayers to begin with.

I agree. I believe the price will stay right where it is with very little variation. Of course if the economy causes all prices of everything to increase it may increase proportionally, maybe from $9.99 to $10.99 or $11.99 but I don't foresee a $20 or $25 a month surprise in the future.

I suspect that if it went up significantly, even with improvements, Adobe would find themselves sitting with a nearly empty cloud and everyone using Corel or something else.

Ya know I talked to all my friends about the CC issue, some like it, some don't, I have strong feeling both ways.
Several years ago Adobe announced that it was only going to update Photoshop CS in sequence. If you had CS3 and wanted to upgrade to CS5 when it came out, unless you had purchased CS4 after CS3 you would not be able to upgrade. Scott Kelby who is by the way a Photoshop Guru wrote Adobe and complained about Adobe's intentions. After several weeks of lobbying Adobe decided that was not a great course of action.
Here is Kelby's break down and explanation

Yes and now the deal is their "permanent" plan regardless of prior ownership or anything.. just sign up for the Lr/Ps /Bridge package for $9.99 for the foreseeable
future.
