I think I would have to go with #1 - these ARE the male parts of the flower, but the vertical ones seem too suggestive, somehow.

That may have been what tilde was sayin'. You don't think it's possible that someone's been slippin' my lilies a little viagra do you? Shucks, I rotated that rascal in all directions and felt so sorry for the poor lil' lily when I aimed it down that I couldn't wait to rotate it somewhere else. After that, it became immediately obvious that this was definitely a "southpaw." Maybe that's just because that's the way it was when first we met. It's nice to see you Mr. Ugly Jake. May I call you ugly? I don't mean to agree but I like to be on a first name basis when possible. Thanks for your input.

I love taking pictures of lilies. I love the black background also. Great job. I have some day lilies that I actually laid on the ground and shot up towards the sky...blue background, and the sun shining through the leaves. just something different. Here's a link to it, BUT now that I look at it I could have cropped better. It was taken a couple years ago. http://www.flickr.com/photos/va1940/2565321305/in/set-72157604127649593

I would like to see the second one rotated and if it is cropped, can you re-crop leaving a little more room on the left hand side between the border and the flower? Love the tones.

Sorry, I didn't see all the comments before offering my 2-cents. I like the dark background, but the flower being so close to the edge on the left side throws me off a little. I would like to see a little more background there.

VERY nice photo and a refreshingly unusual perspective for a lily, va1940!

I think the black was best. White also makes it look a little too fuzzy. My favorite is yhe third from the top.

Hi Carmen. Yes, it is cropped. All four are the same shot cropped and rotated, the top one being as I shot it. I was trying to decided which orientation was more pleasing and if it should be left alone or cropped tighter into the flower. I'm a bit of an uncivilized roughneck and my sensitivity level isn't where I need it to be just yet. Couldn't decide. Thanks. I'll give it a shot. I'm sure there's a *right* balance in there somewhere.

Thanks. I'm sort of leaning that way too and for the same reason.

I'll be glad to try to assist you. To be more specific in my answer I would want to know if you bought the camera new in a box with other stuff and what kind of camera it is, and whether you have a memory card you can take out.

a. A generic answer is that if you bought the camera new, there's a cord in the box that connects your camera and your computer.

b. You would want to install the software on a disc also in the box, if you got one.

c. Read the instructions that came with your camera how to do those things. It should be fairly explanatory and should get you started off.

d. There is a thing called a "card reader" you can get a any computer store that plugs into your computer. If your camera has a memory card, you'll want to match up your card with a reader specifically for that card. There are several kinds of cards so your reader needs to match up with the one you have. Then, you can the card out of your camera and put it in the reader and transfer your images over to your computer. Your computer sees the card reader as another drive and you can just drag and drop the images into a folder you've set up to hold them.

e. You should already have some software on your computer that lets you look at your images, maybe even "doctor" your images some. Perhaps you're already familiar with that from prior use in looking at images on your computer.

If you bought a used camera and don't have anything else, the answer is to get a card reader for sure and follow on down the list I've given you here.

That should get you going in the right direction and once past that, some reading and experimentation and you should be up and running in short order and then you can get further help online if need be. Good luck with it.

I always have the day off I'm retired. An usually am up til 3 or 4 AM. But I'm up at the crack of noon everyday. I'm just learning Gimp cause I'm too cheap to buy photoshop. But this winter when I get all that indoor time I'll start learning how to work on things like this. But for now I just shoot and enhance with PMB the program that came with my Sony A-55
