Why are so many "hiding"??

Unless you come from a small town of two, haven't paid your taxes, running away from three or more wives or husbands, have a criminal record or other violations. I don't understand the "in hiding" used by so many. It certainly is their right and many have a lot to contribute but on the other hand it is nice to know - this person is from Montana, Nebraska, Arizona, Maine or other geographic locations. You understand their photographic environment and some cases the photos and the nature of some of the responses they give. I know that I am not worried about someone coming to my state just to find me.
I sure everyone has their reason and to "keep on contributing" is the main importance here. When you are reading "in hiding" on the forum - it just makes you curious (maybe that is the reason)?? Now, shine a bright light at your face, wait 10 or 15 minutes, and "fess up"

For a long time I never got around to it -- I entered 'Aquitaine' the last time someone asked this question -- and how does it matter anyway? I take your point about "their photographic environment and some cases the nature of some responses they give" but what if they travel a lot? In a given year I might shoot in snow in the Pyrenees or hot sun on the Mediterranean coast.

Cheers,

R.

Some folks do not offer any private information on the web as a matter of security especially if they use their a real name rather than a screen one. If you've used a social network site..you'll see how easy it is for a Facebook or a Twitter to track you from one place to another.

The question is just a matter of curiosity than anything else, I just hope (afterthought) that it does not offend anyone.

No one should be offended...I agree that it can be nice. There are a couple of people here who live in my area and we've covered the same ground so we know where something has been shot.

I look at neighbors in nearby states, I know some move around, and those from other regions of the country - to me it adds a tad of extra interest to their subject matter - a person thing.

Is there some specific way to go "In hiding", other than just not including info in your profile?

I just ran into one reason I never thought about before. You mention it . I managed to tick off someone whose actions lead me to believe he is a true psycho. He includes the fact that he has guns on his information. Even though I have him outgunned I don't want him showing up at my doorstep.

Ah, I see deleting the info puts you in hiding.

You're from Rio? I always wanted to go there when I was in my twenties. 8-)

If you read various lists long enough, you will notice that in most cases, all you ever see are the same names. Quite often, there are regulars that post daily and most members join, read, and run away. The list can have 12,000 members, but only a small fraction participates on a regular basis.

The other day I somewhere saw UHH currently has over 13,000 registered users.

Yes, a very small fraction actively posts.

I recently read a claim that about 5% of the general population are classifyable as psychopaths. (Well, that's better than the estimate of 25% of those in prision). Since this isn't a prision it nonetheless suggests over 600 of registered users are likely psychopaths. Wish I realized that earlier!
