I joined UHH in aug. i think ,and it is really helpful i hadn't done any photography seriously since high school and just started using computers in the last couple of years. In the beginning everyone seemed really nice and helpful, and maybe i'm just new to the internet thing but it seems some people are getting grumpier as the days go by.I still love the site i just hope everyone can mellow out and get back to photography,i mean thats why we came together in the first place right? Just my take, take it as you want.omnila

Those of us who were around in the beginning have seen it all. It's simply what happens on ANY internet forum when it has thousands of registered users. Whether it's photos or cross-stitching, railroads or trout fishing, once you get more than about two or three hundred people in one place, (even a 'virtual' place), you get a fairly accurate cross-section of society, which means one a-hole for every saint, more or less. There are people who enjoy joining forums like this and starting trouble. There are people who like to watch other people get indignant. There's not much you can do except accept it, or move on.

I can see where everyone is coming from on this as I feel the same way on some issues. I haven't posted any photos as of yet (I was going to on Monday) but had computer issues that caused some delay that just got fixed yesterday.

I joined here after being told that I would be accepted more widely here and not be treated like crap like I was before. Since joining, some of that has happened already and that is one of the reasons why I haven't uploaded any more photos or commented on some posts that are asking for comments or thoughts. I also thought I could post any type of photos that I take (fire, sunsets, wildlife, etc) only to get negative remarks about some of those already.

I feel that if thing can move on and people can start to get along more and comment (don't have to always critique) that it would help more people see how they are coming in their learning instead of not learning and moving on to other sites or not improving their work at all.

Just figured I would share my $0.02 worth.

I have been around for a long time now( on this earth) and it seems that we or some, are just getting down right testy, myself included at times. Especially when I see someone post and want to show off their picture(s) and are excited to hear back from you or me but the ELITES and ones that think their stuff doesn't stink will not give them a break. They think the picture is lousey and in one of my cases it really was and I was told to tear it up and toss it. That really hurt but I did something about it and not just because of the remark but because I do not want to take pictures that turn out bad. If I do something wrong I will take the suggestion. If I get shut down just because the picture isn't an outstanding one then the fight is on.
Yes it would be wonderful if everyone was the same but then it would be boring to no end.Believe me when I say I have heard it all and some of it was total Bull****! I like this sight and it would take more than a few dumb comments to get me out of the room. I say give them a chance and most likely they will improve and after awhile may even out do you.

God Bless...Buddy 36

In some respects, I find myself in the middle. I don't always comment because sometimes it's been said already, other times I don't agree that some shot is wonderful, but don't see the benefit of saying so. I'm not the most patient of people, though if failing memory serves me correctly, I'm more patient than I used to be.

I'm willing to make suggestions, or to show how a photo can be improved with post-processing. Not always.

And I'm a great believer in "RTFM" ("Read The F------ Manual"), a phrase I learned while working for a computer manufacturer. I believed that long before I heard it expressed so succinctly. Practiced it, too, as some people learned the hard way.

But sometimes there is no manual, or it doesn't answer the question, or someone doesn't know the right question to ask. So, personally, I try to listen before pulling out the ol' 12-gauge, and hope that pointing someone in the right direction will give him or her the motivation to dig into the subject.

There are those on here who are abrasive (but not necessarily wrong), some who are just opinionated, some who are outright arrogant. And, I suspect, some who haven't been taking their meds. I find my time is better spent moving on to the next topic.

I do wish, though, that people would read an entire thread and maybe absorb what's been said. Telling someone to shoot RAW with a point-and-shoot that only does JPEGs isn't very helpful. It's disturbing to see someone jump in at the end of 6 pages of a thread and repeat something that was said 3 pages earlier, almost word for word, and it's even more disturbing when the original poster has pointed out, "I couldn't reframe the shot because I was balancing tiptoe on the top of a flagpole. In a snowstorm. Uphill."

No but the picture that the fire department took of me falling came out pretty good. However their picture was a little out of focus because their settings on the camera were underexposed. They wanted me to do it again so they could take another shot after resetting the camera with EV!

My being a little shy overcame my normal responses and I said something that can not be printed herein! LOL LOL LOL
