These are three pictures I snapped. The gull was just walking closer and closer to me,so I snapped a picture with the camera I presently have. The LBI picture-I'm always taking pictures at the beach.Snow Fall,I tried to show how much snow we got and just what I saw-How beautiful it looked at the moment....Hope you like them,I know there is room for improvement, critique me...

you were certainly in the right location, but not in the right position. I spend as much time looking at what I don't want in my composition as what I do.

did you notice the trash barrels in this?

I'm looking at your comment to my LBI picture.I need to look at what I don't want as much as what I do want in the pictures I take.Just started doing this-I appreciate you feedback.I knew about the barrels, but, now they are more apparent to me...Thanks..

There's a classic argument between photographers as they stand in front of a beautiful scene. "Do you edit your photos Harry"? "Hell no, he says, I'm a purist"! "Then why did you pick up that beer can before you took the shot"?

We all enhance the picture when we can. You might learn how to remove the trash bins in post processing for starters. Obviously you could pick a more pristine angle that doesn't have those bins but that kind of eye takes time to develop. When shooting beach scenes always check your horizon to see if it's level. Water doesn't flow uphill. Keep shooting, keep learning, keep posting.

The frst two are really nice with the ocean scene being awesome except for the trash cans. Here's what I did. I just cloned out the trash cans and then used the healing brush to apply more texture similar to that on the rest of the photo. Had to make that area a gateway since cloning between the fence slats would be impossible as far as I could tell. I did also clone out the little dark debris that is in front of the fence on the right side.

I did a little auto levels and auto contrast on this whole pic and then isolated the gull and did auto color and sharpen to brighten the color and get the focus crisper. Simple fix. As I said in my previous comment I love this photo too even before the edits. I did clone out a dark piece of debris that was near the end of his tail.

Very well done. About 75% of the posters on this forum could greatly improve their photographs if they only knew how to do a levels adjustment. I don't know what editing software you use but if it's Photoshop, Elements, Lightroom or Aperture you would love Nik Software's Vivesa 2. This plug-in allows precise adjustment of levels & 7 other control sliders without layers by placing selection points. Check it out online.

Thanks, Bob. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and love it. It too has manual adjust for levels but I find the auto is usually spot on. I'm not sure what you mean by the control sliders.

Oops, what I meant was that Vivesa 2 allows localized adjustments without the need to use layers. It's so fast you'd laugh at how easy it is to use.

That was my first impression also, I might have spent a minute moving them out of the photo.
