50 x zoom brings baby Herons into view..
This is actually more about this nice little camera than the quality of the shots. I recently picked up Canon's Powershot SX50 HS. For $400, it is a great little camera, especially for sports and wildlife.
It has a 50x optical zoom, and then goes to 200mm digital, where it gets a little noisy, but still viewable.
Below are some examples of what it can do. While not a birder, I think these are baby Herons. Maybe somebody who knows something about it can confirm that, plus whether or not 3 in a nest is unique or common.
This is where I was standing...
At about 72mm
At 200 mm
This must be a parent. I think the baby's are down in the nest.
Both parents maybe??? Longer beaks.
I just got this camera less than a week ago and like it a lot so far. Lots of new things to learn.
yup, those are great blue herons. 3 young ones in a nest is not uncommon at all. that little camera really pulls things in, doesn't it!!
Welcome to the world of super-zoom! Many happy SX50 users on UHH. Your shots are delightful.

Thanks Linda. I know I am a little late to the party as these super zoom bridge cameras have been around awhile and I have just somehow missed looking into them. I am a new fan! I'm not really a wildlife guy.....but this might get me into it to a new degree.
Like Linda says "Welcome to the World of Superzooms". Your going to love yours. The SX50 has a wonderful group of users and followers here and I've seen some outstanding shots with it.
What was that noise I just heard? Oh, I know, it's you have a blast with your new camera. Have fun!
The babies are real sights but so cute! Very enjoyable pictures of this family.

I love all of them, Timarron, but in the last set the turtles win it for me!
