Just received my SX50 and went out to experiment today in the garden. I think there is going to be a learning curve but it sure is a fun camera to knock about with.

Exercising a new camera (or lens) is one of my most fun projects. You're getting exceptional clarity from yours. I'm still trying to get there .....

#2 is particularly sharp. Here is exif for those interested. The 215 mm shown is equivalent angle of view to 1200 mm on full frame camera.

Have fun with your SX50! I've taken many thousands of images since buying a year ago, and still adore it :)

Very good results.  The SX50 is a great little camera for both still and video. Call Canon and get them to send you a copy of the manual. You can actually download it your self if you so desire. I let them send me a copy as it saved me time, paper and ink. :-D There is much more in it than the little manual that comes with the camera.

Excellent shots; sharp focus, good composition and nicely blurred background. This is a fun camera, lots of whistles and bells

Thanks Bob and Linda.

I have been trying to work at the 1200mm range off hand to develop some skill since I don't like carrying a tripod. The image stabilizer is really interesting and I think learning its tendencies is the trick.

I have been shooting with a Nikon D7000 and am waiting delivery on a 7100 this week, but I think I am really going to enjoy the SX50. It may be the novelty but I can't leave the house without it ;-)

Thank you.

Thanks for the online source for the manual. I actually received a disk with the camera that had the full manual on it which is what I have been using.

I am a lifetime Nikon guy so I am learning a new camera/system but it seems to be fairly intuitive. Some of the functions would be better with easier access than having to go to the menu but like with most complex systems it is compromises.

Thanks tramsey. I am shooting mostly auto mode so the blurred background is just happenstance, I can't take any credit. I mentioned earlier I have been working at 1200mm off hand to develop some innate stability, but I am also very impressed with the built in image stabilizer. It is an amazing little camera for the money.

There is a shortcut button on the back and two custom mode choices on the wheel on top.

I discovered I could set raw+jpg and use in Av or Tv, then go to SCN for my burst mode pics in a hurry (burst mode doesn't support raw or the digital teleconverter), then I have C1 and C2 set at 1.5x and 2x in-camera teleconverter, one with shutter priority and one with aperture priority. That about covers most situations :)

One disadvantage is the small size if you have big hands. It is so easy to hit the self timer button which can screw up your picture taking. :-D

Even with medium-sized lady hands, I hit the record video button a few times (when I didn't want to) :)

Definitely a great little camera!! I take 'most' of my pics in Program mode since that allows the quickest adjustments and seldom lets me down!

Very nice, enjoy your SX, there are many things to learn, but Linda can answer any questions. Thanks for sharing. Bee
