Any thoughts about this lens? It is on sale from Best buy for $349.00. Is that a good price? It would replace my kit 18-55 and also my 28-90, and then some. Using a Canon 60D

I used this lens to replace my Canon kit lenses 18-55 mm and 55-250 mm.
I love it. It is much sharper than my kit lenses on both my T2i and 60D. The only downside I have noticed yet is it seems to exhibit more spherical aberration at the wides angle. However, this is correctable in PP. LR has a profile for it and the only time I have noticed it is with architectural shots. I paid $399 in Canada for it where the MSRP is $499 so I thin $349 is a reasonable price.

After posting my question, I also looked at the Tamron 18-270, which seems to have slightly better reviews. (and about $100. more). Any thoughts on that one as well. Still looking and thinking....

I don't know which version of the Sigma 18-250 you were reading reviews about, but the newer upgraded version of the Sigma lens, which has been out for a while, is generally considered better than the Tamron 18-270 PZD. Keep in mind there are also two versions of the Tamron. The newer PZD version is smaller, lighter and has better optics than the older version. One more piece of info to thoroughly confuse you about which way to go, Tamron will very shortly release their new 16-300mm all in one. Yes, 16 is correct! It will probably eventually replace the 18-270mm.

Hmmm.... That 16-300 would replace 3 of my lenses, with a bit wider on the low end to boot. Wonder when, and what cost. I guess my question would be how the quality (sharpness, CA, and the like) would compair with my current kit lenses? Too many questions, I guess, but to replace 3 lenses with just one, plus IS, sounds really attractive.

I use the Sigma 18-250 3.5-6.3 Macro HSM as a walk around lens on my Nikon D90 and love it .. It replaces two other kit lens that my wife has taken over. I have a Kenko 1.4 telextender that I carry also and it works well with the Sigma. Pictures are sharp enough for me but I don't print anything bigger than 8 x 10 (my printer limits) and I am quite happy with the lens.

Yep! Well, such a lense would be very useful and handy, so I guess I'll just keep watching and listening.... I thank everyone for their input.

I have the 18-270 Tamron and I think it's better than my Nikon kit lenses and also seems to be under rated. In any event it sure beats switching lenses so often and gives me more range than both my kit lenses. It's on my d7100 almost almost all the time and it gives me good results. I paid 449.00 but B&H recently had it for 399.00 and for that money it's great. Tamron does have a 16-300 out now but it's a bit pricier at the moment

I've been using this lens on my 60D for over a year now and love it. I sold both of my kit lens , bought this lens, a Canon 50mm 1.4 and a low priced 500mm lens.

I have the TAMRON 18-270mm f3.5-6.3 Di II With PD Piezo Drive, great lens for out door work. At the WTC I don't know if they allow flash or not. The only problem I have with these lens is the "LENS CREEP". I placed a rubber wrist bracelet on it to stop the creeping. I read this idea in one of the UHH forums.

I used this lens on a Nikon 5200 for a 42 day trip to Europe and found that I had to do significant post processing on most of the 4500 shots selected for a book. The 5200 was able to handle the high ISO requirements for indoor or other darker shots... but such shots ended up very soft. Then there was significant vignetting on may shots... especially at the longer range. If you are looking for simple snapshots... you might be satisfied. I purchased the lens in September and may keep it as a back up... but never again as my walk around lens for important shooting.

It seems whether the sigma or Tamron, these lenses equal or exceed the kit lenses in performance, and people generally like them, which is the kind of information I've been interested in hearing. Now I just need to check my piggy bank! I'm already on the wait list for the 150-600, so it looks like they would make a nice pair. I also have a Bower 8mm for super wide angle applications.

I have it on my Pentax K3....It's a very nice lens. Bought it from B&H for $350.00 and received a 4% rebate.... free shipping and no sales tax. B&H is very good.
