Beautiful Orchid

Since I received a lot of compliments on my first post of a hydrangia yesterday, I am sending another post with an orchid, accented with a black background. I have quite a few of these accented pictures, got a bit carried away, but they all come out beautiful.

Yes - nice contrast. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and although I look for beauty - I often think that orchids are ugly. However your pic is great.

That's good input. Perhaps I will post some other more eye appealing flowers.

Great picture of the dendrobium. Black is a great backdrop for flowers. Suggest possibly using a reflector to add some light to the darker side of the flowers

John made a great picture but I am surprised to see you don't like orchids. My only explanation is that they present us with so much variety and some of them may have an ugly shape. Yet orchids are generally beautiful and most of them are very fragrant as well. I just completed a two-month session of photographing the annual orchid show at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis. I am attaching here three of the more beautiful ones. All orchids share one characteristic: if you draw a vertical line at the middle, the two halves are always mirror images. In case you don't know, orchids grow on double bulbs and their name derives from the Greek word for two very important male organs.
PS No tripods or props are allowed in the show.

It is a pity folks think orchids are not pretty. Personally, I never grow tired of them, and in fact, have been growing them since I was in high school.

Here is one shot of some of my own cymbidiums taken about a week ago.

You just keep taking great photos of things that speak to your soul.

Del, you humble me -- thank you. Now of course, I should apologize to John for taking over his thread a bit.

Hi again John
I think your pic is pretty tech perfect - lighting is superb - arrangement is great - in fact I am encouraged to have a go myself.
Del.
