Nikon has finally made their D600 production problem a thing of the past.

This was just released:

March 28, 2014

With regard to the issue with which multiple granular black spots are reflected in images captured with the D600 digital SLR camera, Nikon sincerely apologizes for any concern and inconvenience suffered by D600 users, retailers, and all concerned.

Because Nikon takes this matter very seriously, we will continue to offer users of the D600 a special service with which cameras are inspected, cleaned, and if necessary, shutter and related components are replaced free of charge, even after the product warranty has expired. However, if a number of multiple granular black spots are still noticeable in images captured with a D600 upon which the above service has been performed several times, Nikon will replace it with a new D600 or an equivalent model.

Nikon will continue to work to improve the quality of its products and services even further.

We hope that you will continue to choose Nikon products for your photographic needs.

Actually, it was released in February and MANY D600 owners have already completed the replacement process at Nikons expense, myself included.

Finally a release without the backpedalling explaining how spots are normal. I wonder who go to them?

MT, did they replace with a 610 or a new 600? I didn't have the spot problem but had it cleaned and the shutter replaced anyway. My only issue is that I still own a stygmatized camera whose value is diminished greatly. Forget resale at a decent level. Wish I had coughed up the blood for an 800e.

I recently sent my D600 in for service related to the first service bulletin in February and am taking periodic test shots to look for any spots. I had returned to the Photography Shop at which I had purchased the camera for sensor cleaning at least twice due to the "spots" issue before the Service Bulletin came out.

Hopefully the service they performed will correct the issue with my camera.

You undoubtedly have the new shutter so I'm betting you'll be fine. The shame of it is that the reputation is hurt which will impact resale if you ever wanted to make a change.

That is certainly a concern, but I'm probably going to be keeping this camera for quite awhile. My main concern was and continues to be, what I see as, a breach of faith by Nikon with their customers.
