Any input on this lens would be helpful.....focus, clarity, distortion.

Thank you in advance

Great Lens - using on Nikon 5100, image quality superb, has become my everyday walk around lens, 6 year warranty, ... I take many photos at the beach - salt air, just bought today a B+W UV Haze filter as an everyday/all the time protector. the tele range allows you to 'sneak' up on subject - see photos.

Bogin Bob, would it be too much to ask what focal length and fstop were these pictures taken? These pictures look great

Have you or anybody else here put a teleconverter on this lens?

I bought the Tamrom 18-270 along with the Nikon D 90. It has been a workhorse of a lens! Highly recommend it.

Using a Tamron 18-270 f 3.5-6.3 on the Canon 70D. Great walk around lens. No problems.

I have one attached to a Canon Rebel T3. Good for what it is. Just don't expect it to match the IQ of a prime or short telephoto lens or the reach of a bridge camera

Timely question ... just last week, I too was considering it. After a little bit of research I walked away with an understanding that you cut in half the light transmission just by using a 2x tele-converter.

That may be OK if you plan to use it outdoors or change the ISO dramatically. However, by setting the camera at max resolution, for most situations where I wish I had a longer lens I could crop carefully and 'increase' image size reasonably without too much degradation. See moon shot (hand held unfortunately)

The Tamron 18-270mm VC lens was my first lens purchase for my Canon EOS 50D. It took the place of a bag full of kit lenses, and lightened my load for a cruise in the Med. I was and still am comfortable with its images. I did have a time, less than a year of ownership, the lens started to go "soft". I sent it back to Tamron Service, in New York. It was returned in only 10 days, with a description of what was done. It was completely cleaned of manufacturing debris, one element replaced, and reprogrammed to Canon 50D, and 7D specs. I checked the lens out, the softness problem is gone, it seems to focus faster, and more accurately, and the image quality is almost as good as my Canon EF 70-200mm f4L IS USM lens. Although I have better glass in this range now, I still use the Tamron 18-270 while on vacation, and hikes. I've got both a 1.6, and 2X teleconverter, I never use them with this lens. The 18-270 needs a good bit of light, and the loss of the "f" stops with the converters is just to much while in the shade under a canopy of trees. On the open beach, I do use a CP filter, and sometimes a ND filter. The lens has a 6 year warranty from Tamron, for the original purchaser. This is much better than Canon. So, if you expect a large amount of use in this zoom range, and possible misuse, this is the lens for you. It will creep open on you if you hang it to the side on a sling, but there is a lens lock to keep it at the 18mm position. Just be sure to release the lock before you try to zoom the lens. the 18-270mm VC is a really good lens, at a wonderful price. Keep in mind though, Tamron is working on a replacement in that range. Considering the they have been coming out with much better glass, you may want to wait for the new version, or check on when it may be coming out.
