Depends on what they are and who (where) they are from.
Items such as Tamron 18 ~ 270mm lens at £100 - £150 off normal price would certainly be a grey import.
Sometimes these items are dispatched from this country, sometimes from China or Hong Kong. These will only have a 1 year warranty from the seller with option of 3 year at extra cost. In this case the Tamron guarantee on a official import is 5 years.
You would need to carefully check where the item would have to be sent if a fault occured - UK or abroad.
Then it is a case of deciding whether the saving is worth any perceived risk.
I have purchased lots of items - especially photographic - from the Chinese and always found them very genuine and eager to please the customer. Any problems I have had have been rectified or full payment returned (without item being returned) without delay.
There are a few Chinese 'hot spots' in the UK such as Portsmouth, Woverhampton and Jersey to name a few.
I have not however purchased 'high risk' items such as camera or lens.
Amazon is a Distributor not a manufacturer. Every thing they sell is made by another manufacturer. The warrant card should be with the product. If not, get in touch with Amazon and insist on getting it.
