has anyone out there had any dealings with abes of maine. some of there prices are lower then the other stores.

They seem to be hit or miss. I've bought from them in the past, but not recently. Members have complained of follow-up phone calls to up-sell. If the price is very good, it could be because not everything is included, or its gray market. I like just ordering and receiving, not talking to salespeople on the phone and trying to get them to understand what "No" means.

I bought something from them a few years back. DVD player I think. No problems. I remember checking them out prior to buying and finding that they had a good reputation. I have also seen a good report or two about them on the Hog. If you are buying camera gear at Abes or anywhere else for a lower then average price be very careful. Make sure of what you are getting as far as warranty, etc. Make sure it's not a repackaged or refurbished item. For cameras and lenses legitimate prices are quite consistant. Super low prices usually have a catch, since the manufacturers generally set the selling price.

I bought my D80 from them (in 2008 I think) and a case in 2012. Never a problem. If the price is good go for it.

Be careful. Most of their low prices are for gray market. They sometime will not ask or inform you of this and when they do the non gray market item is usually not that great of a price. Also, they do try to upsell you into additional products.

I have dealt with them a few times and they were ok. My fav. is B&H photo. I just sold a used camera to KEH and they were great for that purpose.

The lower price items are most likely Import Models/Grey Market. I think Abes specifies whether import or USA. Many items say "USA" in the item header and if you click on "View Product Details" and look at the decription, those items that are grey market say something like "Brand New Factory Fresh Import Model"
