Hahaha! pbear, I never pick up a snake when it's making the sign of the cross. lol

It's the first one on the forehead that you have to watch out for.

Here is a good answer. My understanding is basically this, and it happened to Paul. If it's God's will for you to go to Rome to preach the Gospel and you are bitten by a viper on Malta, you will not die. However, don't go around picking up poisonous snakes to show off....protection doesn't go that far!!

You are so right! I guess he forgot what Jesus said to satan in the desert:5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6 “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’[c]”

7 Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’[d]”

Risk takers die ...

Race car drivers die.
Sky divers die.
Scuba divers die.
Pilots die.

People take chances, and sometimes they die while taking those chances.

Been on the interstate recently? What about main street? Lots of towns have railroad crossings, but people cross them every day ... but occasionally, the trains are faster than the vehicles.

I had patients that I did monthly visits to in southern wv. They handled snakes in church, they were the most honest people I have ever met in my life. The minister of the church and I became good friends this man had more faith in his little finger than I ever could. I would never handle a snake But I do wish I could have the faith that they have.

SteveR, What else from the Bible doesn't apply for today? Do we get to pick and choose? Did we always get to pick and choose? How come you know what applies and what doesn't? Who else knows?

[quote=magicray]Reality show snake-handling preacher dies -- of snakebite

[b](CNN)]/b] -- A Kentucky pastor who starred in a reality show about snake-handling in church has died -- of a snakebite.
Jamie Coots died Saturday evening after refusing to be treated, Middleborough police said.
On "Snake Salvation," the ardent Pentecostal believer said that he believed that a passage in the Bible suggests poisonous snakebites will not harm believers as long as they are anointed by God. The practice is illegal in most states, but still goes on, primarily in the rural South.
Coots was a third-generation "serpent handler" and aspired to one day pass the practice and his church, Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name, on to his adult son, Little Cody.

Like others have said, there's a message there for Cody.
Snake venom in the human blood stream don't mix. Oh yeah, & by the way. God don't work either.
