Consider Photoshop Elements. Current version is 12, if you shop hard you might find it NEW and installable on 2 computers for $50-70.

Leap years ahead of CS3. Nearly all the functionality a photographer needs is included long with a great look and feel.

I'm sorry you can't afford software. Going broke over software might suggest other financial issues!

To be photographers we once had to buy gas to drive to the store and buy film. We could pay to have it processed by mail or buy gas to go to the store and buy chemicals.

I think it used to be about $15 for a roll of 36 shots without prints the last few years before digital. Compared to that, software can be pretty cheap. Lightroom is worth about 7 rolls of film.

If it bothers you to pay Adobe for what they do, there is shareware available. I've read Gimp has lots of loyal fans and is free.

Good luck in this tight and changing economy!

I think that price is valid till Feb 28.

Adobe keeps extending the deadline and changing the requirements. For awhile anyone could sign up but the latest extension requires ownership of CS3 or higher.

It may be that the price is right for only the first year, and that in ensuing years will be $29.95.
See below the "Terms and Conditions":

When the program was first announced a representative from Adobe said that the $9.99/mo price would not be increased. Don't know if he meant for people who signed up under the initial program or all who sign up. And despite what he said Adobe can still increase the price. They got a lot of pushback from photographers when they first announced the subscription program my guess is they won't increase the price because I and I would imagine a great number of photographers would bail on them. I have CS6 to fall back to plus I think other software makers will try and capture some of the market share.

I also have Perfect Photo Suite 8 which I really like. Doesn't have all the power of Photoshop but they keep making improvements like the new eraser tool which I find often works better than Photoshop's content aware fill. There masking tool works great and I've found it much easier to use than Photoshop's.

They had several mis-starts with that $9.99 offer. At first, they stated that the price would not increase if you signed up by a certain date. Then that offer disappeared. They tried again, with $9.99 for the first year. They changed the dates for the offer several times, and now it expires on Feb 28.

I have CS6 and LR5, so there's little incentive for my to join that group.
