Some time ago I purchased a copy of Photoshop CS3 on Ebay and found instead of being a "Full" version, it was an "upgrade". I negotiated the price due to the error and purchased anyway thinking I could get a copy of CS2 cheap and just upgrade, (enter the problem). The copy of CS2 I got has a "generic" I validation code available on the Adobe website. The CS3 activation will not recognize this code.

Question: Does anyone in UHH land have a "purchased" version of CS2 I can purchase at a reasonable price? Other resolutions to the issue would also be appreciated. NOTE...CS3 was the only version I could/can afford at this time. Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, it is offered free...but, the generic activation code with the free version is not recognized when upgrading to CS3. Go figure!?

Yeah, them Adobe people is clever.

I heard that CS2 was being given away because of a mistake of some kind, so they just continued it, but they don't want you to be able to get a cheap upgrade.

I honestly think you are out of luck. The only possible solution is to get the CS2 number from your 'seller' or get your money. He had to know that as an upgrade this was not going to install.

If he does not either try to have eBay folks involved and give a scathing vendor review or, just write the review and forget the whole thing as 'lesson' learned.

I am using Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud) downloaded from Adobe.com... It is a subscription of $9.99 a month that includes the latest PS as well as Lightroom... and you can have them loaded on 2 computers, ie., laptop and main... so, I have the software with me in the field as well.

Creative Cloud membership also come with many tutorials on both programs...

Go to Adobe.com and look for the link to the Photographer's Special... there is no long term contract and you can cancel anytime...

All I can say, is I love it and the price is right!

Many thanks for all the help and suggestions with this problem...especially to the member (who shall remain anonymous)who has offered a copy of CS4, if he can locate the disc. I have always had gracious support and encouragement from this site's members right down to a "Happy Birthday" from admin. My admiration goes out to all of you!

I have a young and good friend that works very hard at Adobe supporting his family. He spends long hours and many days away from home. In a few years he will be sending his two kids to college.

I'm glad Adobe can make a profit!

I think there is a 1 year contract that you must commit to.

It may be that the price is right for only the first year, and that in ensuing years will be $29.95.
See below the "Terms and Conditions":

<Terms and conditions
VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW. Eligible customers may purchase an Adobe Creative Cloud membership to Photoshop CC™ and Adobe® Photoshop Lightroom 5 bundled together for a reduced price. Offer valid for purchases of an annual plan, which requires a 12-month contract. This offer is only available to customers who purchase directly from the Adobe Store or by calling a regional Adobe Call Center. Residents of embargoed countries are not eligible. This offer is limited to one (1) purchase per customer. Offer is subject to U.S. export control laws and laws where the recipient resides. Offer may not be assigned, exchanged, sold, transferred, or combined with any other discount or offer, or redeemed for cash or other goods and services. Offer is valid until February 28, 2014, and can be changed without notice.
Renewal
After the first 12 months, we will automatically renew your contract based on the current price of the offering.>

In its final paragraph it talks about "current price". If the "current" means current price at the time of the renewal, that will mean 20$ more than what you were paying for the first year, and your credit card will be charged for the automatic renewal accordingly.
