Out in the woods getting eaten by skeeters ...
They won. I have never been so defeated by such a small enemy. They actually drove me out of every location I tried to shoot. So I took a few pictures, nothing that I consider especially noteworthy, but perhaps there is some value in sharing not only ones best work, but also the stuff that's pretty good ... and kind of typical for a day of shooting where you just don't get one of those great shots you hope you're gonna get. So here are the few that I like well enough to show to anyone!
Oh ... first time I've shot RAW on this camera!
I kind of like the "through the keyhole" quality of this, like looking from one world into another.
This is so typical of the terrain in our valley. Rocks and roots ... they call it "ledge." Whatever. We have a lot of rocks.
Get eaten by the skeeters its worth it if you turn out pics like this.

Thanks for posting these. I've really, really enjoyed your work! The "keyhole" perspective is soooo inviting. Makes me want to grab my cup of hot cocoa, slather on the bug repellant and enjoy the view.

A LOT of repellent. I've lived in the north east my whole life, not counting about a decade in Jerusalem, and NEVER have the mosquitoes been this bad. I think the local towns ran out of funds, so they didn't spray this year. Or maybe they decided that poisoning the water supply wasn't a good idea after all, but I'd be surprised if they were that enlightened. In fact, one of the things you do NOT get in small towns like this is enlightened town management!
#1 - i am wondering if one should not pump up the background and downplay the beautiful framing. i love the framing, but it does overpower the scenery. just a thought.
I made a bunch of different versions of this. I like this because it felt to me like looking from one world into another, a slightly misty world, maybe full of fairies and trolls. Maybe I've been reading too much science fiction.

I totally agree about lack of enlightened responses. We've had similar budget and therefore pest problems in this part of FL also to the point I've given up outdoor activities at certain times. So I've been playing with indoor macro shots instead...where there's a camera, there's a will to use it, right?!
Got me to start documenting my antique doll collection. If you can't do one thing, well... find another!
