Doesn't 18-300mm cover just about all the focal ranges you need? 25-105mm is redundant.

To be honest , I'd buy a good, fast lens for an expensive once in a lifetime trip like this. I'd probably buy a 70-200mm f/2.8 and a 1.4x teleconverter. Take along your 18-55mm and you've got a lens that will be okay for wide angle shots.

What sorts of things are you expecting to photograph? Landscapes, architecture, animals? What body do you have, and what sort of budget do you have?

As jeep_daddy says, don't be redundant.

I'd buy the canon 28mm f/2.8 or the 35mm f/2.

Both very light and nice for street, landscape...etc.

OR...if you really wanna treat yourself, buy an X100S :)

For what you want I agree with rpavich suggested or add a 50mm 1.8 to what he said. The 50mm is inexpensive but very good optics.

Are you looking for a one lens solution for your trip? If not, why do you want this lens? The Canon 24-105 f/4L, not 25-105, is a great walk around lens, but at 24mm it's not very wide on a crop sensor camera like your and the reach is only to medium telephoto. As a result you may be disappointed if you plan to use it for expansive landscapes. It will run close to $1000 and is fairly large and heavy for a body as small as the SL1. If you are willing to carry more than one lens and are unsure what to get at this time, keep, using what you have. For a prime I would suggest a 30 or 35mm lens. A very flexible focal length for a crop camera. Not too wide, not too long.

I'm not sure you really need a new lens. What do you feel is lacking or limiting your photography? There are advantages to traveling light. :-)

I think you're well prepared for the trip. If you got a new lens and didn't have time to learn how and when to use it, you'd be wasting time learning that when you should be enjoying the trip. :-)

The only thing you might benefit from is a "fast" lens, probably a prime. The 50mm f/1.8 would be the easy choice, since it has the best combination of image quality, maximum aperture, and price ($110 new, $80 used). The EF 35mm f/2 is a great lens, but it's $550 new. Either of these would greatly increase your photography options as it gets dark.

Thanks very much. Doesn't canon make a 50mm 1.4?

Yes they do and it can be found at B&H for $299. It significantly better in construction. Please don't take this wrong, the 1.8 is approximately 100.00 and an absolute great lens (own one) but the the 1.4 is built to last.

i think you are good to go with what you've got now. the only suggestion i'd make is to do some testing on the 18-55mm with 200 and 400 iso for low light and deeper dof.
