Teddy,
One question, was all your Canon glass also stolen? If not, and you still have some Canon glass it might be hard to switch. That being said, I have had the D7100 since it came out in March of this year. It is a fantastic camera. Bit of a learning curve but reading your manual, Utube videos and getting out and using it makes the learning a lot easier. Have always shot with Nikon so I kinda lean that way but the D7100 is a great camera, you can not go wrong with that choice.

I had my Canon rebel EOS T3i stolen a couple of weeks ago and am considering a Nikon D7100. Will I be disappointed?

No.

What did I say that implied that there is anything wrong with your 5D or 5DMkII, or that you should reinvest in Nikon equipment?

Amehta, nothing......, I think he's just like you and I, a trouble maker!!

Well, one motto I believe in: "Do what you're good at, be good at what you do." ;-)

If you can afford all NEW lenses ( and I do not mean used) for the Nikon you will not be disappointed. If you have Canon lenses now that you want to keep or you can afford only older used Nikon lenses - then stay with Canon - their older used lenses are better than Nikon's.

If he gets a D7100, then he isn't limited to AF-S lenses, and there are some excellent older lenses worth considering. For example, with macro, the Nikon 105mm f/2.8D is good compared to the Nikon 105mm f/2.8G VR, and the Nikon 200mm f/4D has not been updated yet, but is an awesome lens.

I think you just bought credit for about 6 "Canon is King" posts before it gets annoying again.

You never made that implication, so I apologize if anything I wrote suggested that you did. My principal point was that someone in this thread wrote that Canon was a camera leader until 2007. I scratched my head and wondered just what I may have missed. That person wrote back (with gratuitous sarcasm, I might add), but I never found out much about 2007. I mentioned my two Canon dslr cameras only because one appeared before that year and another after that year. I wished to avoid the one-is-better-than-the-other line of discussion.

Why don't you just buy an F5 and get this over with. The others do not even come close to this camera.

There is no question that Canon had a better DSLR line-up up until 2007. I think the D3/D300 combo made it basically a dead heat, and that's still the case today. Obviously you think otherwise, I'm curious why.

I made the original comment referring to 2007. But I didn't say that Nikon was the leader after that, called it a dead heat. The Nikon D3 and D300 were released in 2007, and those significantly improved Nikon's line-up. I see that the wording of my original comment didn't make that clear.

The gratuitous sarcasm came from a third poster, SharpShooter, an unabashed Canon supporter.

Facts are facts. Canon sells more than most of the other brands combined. They do so for a few simple reasons. Quality, support, and yes they are superb at marketing. Everyone likes to root for the underdog even if it is a great brand like Nikon. It would not surprise me if we are discussing the takeover of the DSLR market share by Sony in about ten years. They appear to be true innovators.
No, I do not think you would be disappointed with a 7100 anymore or less than you would be with a 70D. Most of the time, they get better each year.

JC, your not talking about some kind of an old extinct dinosaur are you?
If so, could you please pack up your paleontological suitcase and GO HOME !!
JC, it's because of that beater that Nikon is in the shambles that it's now in.
But, they make a GREAT lamps !!

02, calm down, I'll tell you what happened.
In 05, marked the 3rd straight year that Canon outsold Nikon.
In 07, marked the 5th straight year Nikon got spanked.
In 09, marked the 7th straight year of the same.
And just to bring you up to speed(in case you blinked) 2013 marked the 11th straight year that Canon has changed Nikons diapers.
02, unless you have a hankering to use slow, heavy lenses, you best stay right where you are !! Enjoy your mkll.

WHO cares if Canon outsells Nikon? Clearly you do, but it doesn't mean ANYTHING in terms of quality of products. Canon is a significantly larger company than Nikon. Canon has a significantly larger advertising budget than Nikon. Does that alone make Canon better? Puhleeze. In every post, your tone comes across as smug and self appreciating. I don't know why you can't just accept that Nikon and Canon both build excellent products. Which one is best for someone is a personal decision. But most assuredly, who sells the most has absolutely nothing to do with it.
