The nikon D50 works pretty good in low light conditions.

First- Make sure that you are holding the camera steady. Use a tripod if you have one.

Second- If you are not using a tripod; look to see what shutter speed you are using for the image.

Third- Either adjust the Aperature to a bigger setting= lower number, or raise the ISO on the camera.

Depending on what setting you are using; (automatic, Program, or scene preset) you may not be able to adjust some of your settings.

Hope this helps

if your shutter speed is any slower than 1/60, then you will have to have a really steady hand to get good pics, better to use a tripod and a shutter release of some kind in low light, or light it up with a flash or two.

Increase the ISO to about 800 and set your shutter speed to about 1/60 and your F stop at about 5.6. This is at dusk. Any later than this you would need a tripod.

Considering the good advice above, also consider acquiring one or more VR (OIS) lenses. It reeeeally works. For the typical dusk shutter speeds (1/2 - 1/30 sec) it’s as good as a tripod for wide to midrange focal lengths.

If you’re already using VR lenses, make sure it’s switched on, at the lens and-or in the menu. If you’re already using fully enabled VR, you ought to study noobie level tutorials about general camera use.
