I guess it all depends!
When I want to take beautiful pictures of something I always use my Nikon.
If I want to shoot at something really, really big...I would probably use a cannon.
Sorry, couldn't help myself!
I go with the guys that shoot for NatGeo....CANON!

I can point out some serious "shortcomings" in each system; if someone thinks it "makes sense" to pick a camera brand simply because "someone" uses that brand........I think that person probably doesn't know a lot about evaluating and using cameras.
One of my favorite camera writers that I really enjoy reading, I can't buy his books because his expertise is in speed lights, and he shoots with Canon and I shoot with Nikon; even so, reading his columns, his enthusiasm for a particular high-end accessory (which will work equally well with either brand ), caused me to buy one, and I'm absolutely delighted with it. (which I think kind of points out that it's a good idea to keep an open mind when it comes to brands ).

Both brands are as good as they come. Having owned and used some of their best I favor Nikon. Their cameras are more feature rich and the flash system is outstanding.
However, my preferences have evolved over time. Recently sold my D700 and 5D II and purchased a GX7 and OM D M1.
To me M4/3 is the perfect ratio of what is important to me at this time. I am not influenced by what others use.
My favorite camera is always the one I have in my hands at the moment.
Lens or body? Full frame or crop sensor?
The arguments pro and con depend a lot on what system you are looking at.
Most people who use both makes agree that on the full frame the Nikon has the edge with low light on the D4 and prime lens quality in some areas. Particularly Nikon users say that. Canon users can also quote reviews that would suggest offsets to the Nikon advantages.
I use both makes; and there is very little I find to choose between the results from either.
The new age of Nikon & Canon are very different from the past.
Nikon would be the go to in the past. The Canon has a warmer softer look and the Nikon a colder look right out of the box. The addition of more video in our lives (mine I am a producer)
has created a new vision for all of us. I like where Sony is going now. They are coming out with cameras for still and video at great price points. The NEX series I have the 7and 5 are great fun to use. Their video lineup is forcing Canon and even Red to reduce and rethink their cameras. It seems the trickery of firmware design is creating our vision and it can be frustrating.
The solution is better creative approach and the fundamentals of taking good shots technically. You are the camera but I must say that understanding the tech of the cameras is like going back to school. Good luck everyone. It's the driver not the car.
Thank you Klaus
You made my day :~)

Silly question, really. Which is your favorite, Toyota or Honda? Both are good products with serious fan loyalty. People tend to stick with the brand they started with when they have had good results. So, you can get lots of opinions, but you know what they say.
I think it all about the glass ...... we all know which brand has the best reputation for the lens ...just look at the brand name on any high quality optic ....................
