Driving home one day last month when my grandson shouted to me to look at the sky. Of course I had to pull over and take a quick shot (and sorry to say I was too excited to really pay attention to the camera settings). I have never seen a rainbow form in a cloud like this, and it wasn't even raining. It was so hot that day! I tried enhancing the colors a bit in Photoshop, but I'm still trying to figure out that program - as many of you say, it has a steep learning curve. Any suggestions to improve the photo are welcomed. ~lin

I am a newbie to this site but would like to comment on your very high ISO setting for this picture. It is causing a significant amount of noise that you could have avoided given the available light. Spiffy pic on all other levels.

Thanks, I'm still learning what settings are best in different light situations and because I was in such a hurry to get the shot I didn't consider how much noise I was gonna have. The funny thing was that the cloud and it's rainbow dissipated within a couple of minutes. Thank you again for the feedback, it helps me learn. :D
Anytime, that's how we all learn.
That's beautiful! Great capture!
Great catch, and what an observant grandson!
Great photo, quick reaction on your part. Is your grandson old enough for his first camera? If so a couple years from now he could teach you everything you need to know about photography. Youngsters brains are like sponges and as you get older stuffing new information into your crowded brain is like sticking one more piece of paper into an overflowing folder.

firsy off congradulations on getting the shot by having your camera with you. the first rule of photography is be prepared. sometimes you don't have time to compose, you just grab the shot the best you can. Also i like the noise it adds texture. finally the photo is perfect the way it is. stop don't do anything more to it. I have a problem when i have a photo open in elements to want to do too much. sometimes you gotta know when to hold em know when to fold em.
Really cool! It's great you got the colors. Sometimes shots like these that you take on the fly end up washing out or being underexposed. What causes this is that clouds are mostly moisture. It is the from the angle you were looking at the clouds which caused the prismatic effect. Same as a rainbow, raindrops refracting the light rays to cause a prismatic effect.
You really did catch an unusual angel rainbow. I have a friend who has taken pictures of just the clouds without the rainbow effect and I have seen those type clouds here, but never with a rainbow. I saved your picture to my drive and applied the Nik filter to reduce/remove the graininess, and it did that, but I don't think the picture really needs to be improved as you took it.
