Looking for a tripod

Some useless POS stole my tripod out of my Jeep recently. Yeah, I know, I'm an idjit for leaving the thing there to begin with, but that's a whole 'nother story. What I need to do now is replace my tripod.

I'm looking for a dependable and inexpensive tripod. I don't care at this time if it's a ball-head or pan-and-tilt, only that it does what it's supposed to do. Looks don't matter - it'll get beaten up in the course of work anyway. I'm not picky on brand or any other similar factor - just that the thing is sturdy enough for a Minolta Maxxum5d and whatever lens I decide to put on it, as well as being able to withstand harsh weather or environmental conditions. No woosie tripods need apply here.

If you have a spare tripod you'd like to part with, please send me a description and your asking price. Of course, a photo or two of the thing would be really helpful, too. As to price range, think very tight budget. Please email me at hs.seeker@gmail.com.

Thanks,
Dave K :D

Dave, I have an old, built like tank tripod that I purchased in the mid-seventies; heavy as hell and still works. I want to say that it's a Promaster, but I'm not sure. If you will pay shipping, it's yours!

How much have you paid for your camera and lens? Never skimp on buying a tripod, a good tripod is worth the money.

I feel your pain, scares the crap out of me everytime I'm on my bike. I now use a gun lock on my bag and tripod if I find myself in a situation where I might have to leave one or both on the motorcycle.

Kind of like that ad about chex party mix in a conceiled bag. Doesnt look like camera equip. With the gun lock I can lock everything up and the bags cannot even be opened to see whats in there.

Has raised the eyebrows of some friendly local state police, the bags I made from lightweight kevlar that one the tripod slides in and the second my camera bag slides into completely covering the camera bag. Folks just think I have a small tent and sleeping bag bungied on. They dont even see the lock, that would need bolt cutters to get it off even.

Just food for thought if it helps anyone my post is worth it.

Be safe

I had a $10 tripod from Walmart once. I left it in my MG with the top down for a whole summer and no one would steal it. Better to buy a good used then new junk.

Go to Ebay..I got a nice Bogen for 40.00...this tripod probably cost 140.00 a few years ago...You will probably only buy one Bogen in your lifetime..they are that good...I think if a truck ran over them they would survive....

I would never reccomend a cheap tripod for anyone serious. You need a Bogen/ Manfroto etc

By the way Bogan will crumble under the weight of an 80,000 truck, I know I cried. even kicked the tire while the driver was fumbling over words......... oh well another story for another day. was an adventure for sure.
