Here I am totally addicted to photography and I can not compose worth a hoot. Yet my 2 daughters are very artistic. My oldest daughter, ( the blonde ) can play just about any musical instrument there is. I can't even play the stereo. Her favorite pastime is photography. She has won numerous awards and accolades for her photography, and as can see, she uses a simple Kodak Easy share 14mp point and shoot. She says that it makes her work harder at it. I say it is because she is irresponsible and keeps losing or dropping her cameras and Daddy will not buy her the Canon DSLR that she wants. She is 20 now and about to have her first baby in November. I bet she wishes she had that Canon about now!

The younger one ( lying in the window well ) who is 18 now, is enrolled at Park college under a full art scholarship. She too, enjoys photography.

These photos that I shot were taken with a Fuji point and shoot while we were enjoying an art exhibit at Kansas City Union Station last year.

When I look at the old wire mesh, I take a picture of it. When my oldest daughter looks at it, she composes it in her mind then snaps a picture worth hanging in a gallery showing. Pretty neat.
When I look at the old wire mesh, I take a picture...

Here she is taking a picture and here I am trying to see what she sees and how she does it. I know that is cheating
Here she is taking a picture and here I am trying ...

This is a picture of my youngest daughter relaxing. I did not photoshop this picture at all. I think it is pretty cool. What do you all think?

Welcome - I think they are all kinda of cool. I really enjoy seeing how others see the world. Number one reminds me of a ongoing debate about to straighten a picture or not - not all agree. #2 is a nice candid, but you might want to think about focus on her haed more - or not. Yes - #3 is very good - shapes and lines always hold my attention. Some may suggest to make it lighter, and to level it using the top of the window for reference and other would leave it alone. While you are downtown KC do you ever go to the WWI Museum - the best in the USA. Up at top is a good place for photos - skyline & statues. Looking back over you profile I believe I have mentioned KC to you before - oh well at my age everything is new again. Thanks for sharing.

I was just going thru the archives when I noticed these. It was late. I was tired. The first two, I just wanted people to get the jist. They were pretty poor ( the white balance was way off ) to begin with. I could go back on the third one and lighten it a bit, but I don't think so. Just me.

I love that third photo. It makes her look so serene and as if having a moment of reflection. I wouldn't change a thing. If it were in a display of photos it would catch my eye immediately. Definitely a keeper.

Yes, it does evoke an emotion. Sometimes one gets lucky with such a shot. Thank you.

The third photo is a real gem. Frame it & hang it on the wall. I love the lighting creating a thoughtful mood. I love the composition with the open wind and the viewer's eye drawn to the face. Great photo! :)

I find the talents that my children have are amazing considering their parents.
I love the last shot of your daughter. I hope you have it printed and on your wall.

Yep, they all tell a story, and the 3rd one really says it all! Nice job. My daughter is like your oldest, she is more creative than me, and to my embarrassment, sees things that I would never see.

agree with all the coments. The third one is very well composed. I think you have a better eye than you give yourself credit for. May i make a sugestion. I was in a rut creatively and wasn't seeing the oportunities right before my eyes until I read "learning to see creatively" by Bryan Peterson (my favorite photographer) It is available new and used on amazon.com. Reading that book opened my eyes to all sorts of possibilities and to different creative ways to compose a shot. It has had a huge impact on my work. I highly recomend it.
