My Wife

One wireless flash unit placed directly behind the subject. Used a sheet of paper to roll a DIY diffuser. F/22, 1/250, ISO 100.

Low ISO and small aperture was mainly used to cut the ambient light. I'm using 430 EX II, so no HSS in wireless mode (with a 7D). So the max shutter speed I could use was 1/250. I would have preferred to raise the shutter speed and open up the aperture to get a shallow depth of field, but the background seems to be working there.

On top of that, with my setup (7D+430II), the wireless flash is triggered by the on-body flash -- with minimal output, but still illuminating the foreground a bit.

Flash metering through TTL, with 0 FEC.

In post processing, raised the black point by half a stop to hide bright spots of the silhouette, and raised exposure by 2/3 of a stop to counter the shifted black point for the background.

Well done. The only suggestion I would make for improvement would be to either have a little space above her head, or crop it a little tighter so the silhouette hitting the top of the frame looks intentional. As it is, it looks accidental to me.

Yeah, I'll probably crop it a bit. Thanks for the suggestion.

You are welcome. It is one of those simple little things that I tend to miss sometimes, myself.

Very very creative.

THIS is what sets this shot above 90% of what's posted on the hog...a bit of creativity....

You did a fine job...

By any chance have you been surfing the Strobist site???

It seems like you have...but IF you haven't, you will get some very good ideas and instruction there..

Again...very creative and well done.
