Does anyone know the shelf life for inkjet cartridges? Example, ink cartridges for Canon Pixma Pro-100.
I don't print a lot so if I buy extra cartridges when I see a sale, will they last more than a year on the shelf?

Thanks,
Regis

Most manufacturers claim in the neighborhood of 24 months....btw, your question made me wonder what the shelf life for a shelf is? I think I am getting too old for this...... :-D

Regis,

Where do you find the CLI-42 cartridges on sale? I've not found them discounted anywhere.

Bill,
Have not found sale YET but, have considered getting a 2nd printer with the current rebate. Probably would not use for about a year. I'll hold off though looking for sale on ink alone.

It depends what is on the shelf. I have some overloaded book shelves that are sagging badly.

My HP printer uses 5 color cartridges. I used to buy the sets for the discount but found that 2 colors don't get used enough to buy that way. I buy the smaller capacity cartridges for those color because I don't use them fast enough to avoid having to change before they are used up. Ink seems to last a lot longer in it than my older inkjet.

I emailed Canon tech support and here is their reply:
"Dear Regis G:

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. I understand you are inquiring about the shelf life for the ink cartridges of your PIXMA PRO-100. I will be happy to address your inquiry.

The ink in our ink cartridges will not expire. As long as the ink cartridges stay seal and are not exposed to ink, you will not have any issues. The ink is alcohol based so any prolonged exposure to air will make the ink evaporate.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your PIXMA PRO-100. Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

Ira

The boxes give a use by date - but I have often had ink cartridges for several years after the S/B date before I have used them - and they are still OK.

When in the sealed packs they will keep best - but the one in my printer (HP) now was put in at least a year after the S/B date and that was about 5 years ago!

I have a new printer that I never opened that came with the computer. That was about 5 years ago. Never opened the box, still using my HP DESKJET 722C that was with my first computer about 10-14 years ago and still working like a champ. I wonder if I'll ever use the new printer? It's a Canon Pixma.....

I just installed a new ink cartridge in my Pro-100. The instructions say to use all the ink with in 6 months. Be nice if one did last that long.
